Huaiyin Institute of Technology is located in Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province, the hometown of Premier Zhou Enlai and a national historical and cultural city. It is an undergraduate college in Jiangsu Province with distinctive application characteristics. It is a master's degree awarding institution, a pilot university for the National "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" and "Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talent Education and Training Program", the first and second batches of "New Engineering" research and practice project pilot universities of the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Education's applied undergraduate teaching quality evaluation program formulation university; it is the first batch of pilot universities for the "Hundred Cities and Thousands of Schools" plan of the China University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Alliance, the vice chairman unit of the National University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practice Alliance, the vice chairman unit of the Applied Undergraduate Branch of the China Education International Exchange Association, the chairman unit of the Jiangsu-Taiwan Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Alliance, and the vice chairman unit of the Jiangsu Higher Education Association Applied Undergraduate College Research Association.

There are 44 provincial and ministerial-level platforms, including the Ministry of Education ICT Industry-Education Integration Innovation Base, the Collaborative Innovation Center for Deep Utilization of Rock Salt and Concave Soil Resources, the Provincial Salt Chemical Engineering Practice Education Center, the Provincial Industrial Talent Training Demonstration Base, and the Provincial University Student Entrepreneurship Demonstration Base, achieving full coverage of provincial-level and above platforms for disciplines and majors. In the past five years, students have won more than 5,000 provincial-level and above discipline competition awards, including 1 gold medal and 1 bronze medal in the "Chuang Qingchun" national competition, 3 bronze medals in the "Internet +" national competition, and 4 third prizes in the "Challenge Cup" national competition; the admission rate for postgraduate entrance examinations remains above 20%, and the employment rate is above 96%. The enrollment scale of postgraduate students has continued to grow rapidly, and the training results are remarkable. It has been approved as 3 excellent postgraduate workstations in Jiangsu Province, 2 provincial excellent postgraduate courses, 2 provincial postgraduate education reform achievement awards, 5 provincial excellent master's degree theses, and scientific research papers with postgraduates as the first author have been published in top journals in the field of chemical engineering.

The school adheres to the service orientation and continuously enhances its scientific and technological innovation and social service capabilities. In the past five years, it has been approved for more than 300 scientific research projects at the provincial level and above, such as the National Natural Science Foundation and Social Science Foundation. Among them, it has been approved as the first unit for more than 30 provincial and ministerial awards such as the first and second prizes of Jiangsu Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievements and the second prize of scientific and technological progress; 600 national invention patents have been authorized. The school has deeply promoted the "1111" science and technology innovation service project, and deepened the integration and development with Jiangsu, especially the counties and districts of Huai'an City in all aspects. The school insists on open education, and has established friendly cooperation relations with nearly 60 universities in the United States, Canada, Britain, France, Italy and Taiwan. It cooperates with Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences in Finland to carry out undergraduate education in logistics engineering, and co-establishes the China-Europe Canal Cultural Exchange Center with the University of Salento in Italy; and carries out joint training doctoral programs with universities such as the University of Lorraine in France, Nagasaki University of Science and Technology in Japan, and Shinawatra University in Thailand. There are nearly 200 international students on campus, and an average of more than 100 teachers and students go abroad for exchange each year.
