Suzhou University of Science and Technology

Suzhou University of Science and Technology was formed by the merger of the former Suzhou Urban Construction and Environmental Protection College and the former Suzhou Railway Normal College. It is a full-time general university with engineering as its main discipline and coordinated development of multiple disciplines in engineering, science, liberal arts, management and art. It is an excellent university in the undergraduate teaching level assessment of the Ministry of Education. In 2017, it became a university jointly built by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and Jiangsu Province, and was approved as a construction unit for the Jiangsu Province doctoral degree awarding project in the same year.

The school has three campuses: Shihu, Jiangfeng, and Tianping. The main campus, Shihu Campus, is adjacent to Shihu Water and sits on Shangfang Mountain. It has a beautiful environment and beautiful scenery. The campus covers an area of ​​2,300 acres. There are more than 19,000 full-time undergraduate students, more than 2,800 graduate students, and more than 100 international master students.

The school has 17 first-level disciplines authorized to grant master's degrees and 14 master's professional degree authorization categories. Two disciplines were rated B in the fourth round of national discipline evaluation, and the disciplines of "Engineering" and "Chemistry" ranked among the top 1% of ESI; 6 disciplines were selected into the provincial advantageous discipline construction project, and 6 disciplines were selected into the "14th Five-Year Plan" provincial key disciplines. Among the 64 undergraduate majors, 13 majors were selected as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites; 13 majors were selected into the Jiangsu University Brand Major Construction Project; 8 majors passed the higher education professional evaluation and engineering education professional certification.

The school currently has more than 1,400 full-time teachers and more than 600 teachers with senior professional and technical positions. The school has a number of famous teachers, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the European Academy of Sciences, the Third World Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering, the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Russian Academy of Engineering, and national architectural design masters; more than 50 people have been selected for national talent projects, including the winners of the National "Outstanding Youth", the winners of the Wu Yuzhang Humanities and Social Sciences Award, and the "Changjiang Scholars" Distinguished Professors; more than 400 people have been selected for various provincial talent projects, including the second level of the provincial "333 Project"; and there are 11 provincial and above teaching and research innovation teams, including the provincial "Double Innovation Team".

The school has won 1 first prize and 3 second prizes in the national teaching achievement award, and more than 40 provincial teaching achievement awards, including the provincial teaching achievement special prize and the provincial first prize for the reform of postgraduate training models. Won the gold medal of the "Golden Bell Award" (Chorus), the highest award in Chinese music, and the "Mountain Flower Award", the highest award in Chinese folk art. There are 1 national-level college student cultural quality education base, 1 national-level college student science and technology entrepreneurship internship base, 1 national-level off-campus practice education base, and 1 Jiangsu College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practice Education Center. In the past five years, students have won more than 4,700 awards in provincial and ministerial-level discipline competitions, including the "Challenge Cup" National College Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition and Entrepreneurship Plan Competition Special Award, China's "Internet +" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition Gold Award, the American College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition (MCM/ICM) Special Award Nomination, China Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge National Competition Special Award, and the National College Student Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Social Practice and Science and Technology Competition Special Award. Since its establishment, the school has trained nearly 200,000 graduates of various types for the country.

The school currently has 24 scientific research platforms at or above the provincial level, including the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center, Jiangsu Key Laboratory, and Jiangsu Provincial Key Research Base for Philosophy and Social Sciences. In the past five years, the university has undertaken more than 2,000 scientific research projects, including nearly 260 national-level projects such as major national science and technology projects, national key R&D projects, national "973" projects, "863" projects, National Natural Science Foundation (key) projects, and National Social Science Foundation (key) projects; won more than 40 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards; more than 5,100 academic papers have been included in the three major retrievals such as SCI, and more than 1,100 patents.

The school has compiled more than 200 small town plans and completed more than 1,000 rural plans in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui. Participated in the formulation of a large number of local environmental protection policies, the preparation of corporate environmental pollution control and environmental emergency plans, cooperated with the provincial and municipal 263 action plans, participated in the completion of more than 100 projects such as risk assessment and restoration of sites in the Yangtze River Delta, and cooperated with Nanhai District, Foshan City to build the Suzhou University of Science and Technology Environmental Research Institute to conduct cross-domain technology output and explore effective long-term pollution prevention and control mechanisms for the Pearl River Delta. Suzhou Rural Revitalization Research Institute has drafted and completed my country's first agricultural and rural modernization evaluation and assessment indicator system. Suzhou National Historical and Cultural City Protection Research Institute provides comprehensive services to support the construction of the only "National Historical and Cultural City Protection Demonstration Zone" in the country. The Urban Development Think Tank was approved as a decision-making consulting research base in Jiangsu Province, selected as the first batch of new think tanks in Suzhou, and became a source think tank of the China Think Tank Index (CTTI).

The school has established inter-school cooperation with nearly 80 universities and research institutions in more than 20 countries and regions. Since 1993, it has hosted the foreign aid human resources training course sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce every year, providing training and academic education for more than 2,000 officials and technicians in the fields of environmental protection, energy and logistics in more than 120 countries along the "Belt and Road" and developing countries. In 2015, the school became one of the first universities in the country to undertake foreign aid master's degree education projects. The school has been approved for 3 high-level demonstration construction projects of Sino-foreign cooperative education in provincial universities, 1 key project of the first batch of international talent training brand majors in the province's "14th Five-Year Plan", and 1 key platform construction project of the first batch of overseas high-level talents in the province's "14th Five-Year Plan". It has been selected into the "Jiangsu-Korea University Cooperation Alliance" and the provincial "International Chinese Education Alliance for Colleges and Universities".
