Hohai University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education with a history of more than 100 years, featuring water conservancy, engineering as the main subject, and multi-disciplinary coordinated development. It is a key construction project for the implementation of the national "211 Project" and a national advantageous discipline innovation platform. , "double first-class" construction and universities approved by the Ministry of Education to establish graduate schools. For more than 100 years, the school has developed and grown in the process of controlling water conservancy and rejuvenating the country, and is known as "the cradle of cultivating high-level innovative and entrepreneurial talents in water conservancy and an important base for water conservancy science and technology innovation." The school has Xikang Road Campus, Jiangning Campus and Changzhou Campus in Nanjing and Changzhou, covering an area of ​​2,462 acres.

Hohai University originated from the Hohai Engineering College founded in 1915 by Zhang Jian, a famous patriotic industrialist and educator in modern times. It is the first institution of higher learning in China to train water conservancy talents and pioneered water conservancy higher education in China. Proletarian revolutionaries such as Zhang Wentian and Shen Zemin once studied in Hehai and embarked on the road of revolution from here. In 1924, it merged with the Engineering Department of Southeast University to establish Hohai University of Technology. In 1927, it was merged into the Fourth Department of Civil Engineering of Sun Yat-sen University (later passed through the Civil Engineering Department of Jiangsu University College of Engineering, the Water Conservancy Group of the College of Engineering of Central University, the Department of Water Conservancy of Central University, and the Department of Water Conservancy of Nanjing University Wait for multiple name changes).
