Hainan Normal University is located in Haikou, a beautiful coastal tourist city and a national historical and cultural city. It currently has two campuses, Longkun South and Guilinyang, covering an area of ​​about 3,100 acres. It is a key university in Hainan Province and an important training base and scientific research base for excellent teachers and senior professionals in Hainan Province. Since its establishment, it has trained more than 180,000 basic education teachers and various senior talents for the society, and is known as "Qiongdao Famous School, Cradle of Teachers".

It has a long history of running schools. The predecessor of the school can be traced back to the Qiongtai Academy with a history of more than 300 years. In the autumn of 1949, the National Hainan Normal College was officially established. It is the first public university in Hainan Province. In 1952, it was renamed Hainan Normal College in the adjustment of colleges and departments of higher education institutions. In 1986, the establishment of Hainan Normal College was restored. In 1999, it merged with Hainan Education College to form a new Hainan Normal College. In 2007, it was renamed Hainan Normal University. In 2013, it was approved to confer doctoral degrees. In 2015, it became a university jointly established by the Hainan Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education.

The training system is complete. The school currently has 24 colleges and more than 20,000 full-time students (including more than 19,000 undergraduates and more than 2,000 postgraduates). There are 67 undergraduate majors, 19 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 13 master's professional degree authorization points, 5 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, and 2 postdoctoral research mobile stations, forming a complete higher education talent training system for bachelors, masters, and doctors.

The faculty is strong. There are 1,342 full-time teachers and scientific researchers, including 254 senior professional titles, 417 associate senior professional titles, and 480 full-time teachers with doctoral degrees. The results of educating people are remarkable. The school adheres to the concept of student-centeredness, actively promotes the comprehensive reform of education and teaching of "enrollment in large categories and diversion training", vigorously carries out innovation and entrepreneurship education, and forms a high-quality education and teaching system that adapts to the sustainable development of local economy and society. The school is the first batch of journalism schools jointly built by the Central Propaganda Department and the school, the first batch of three-dimensional education pilot units of the Ministry of Education, the national key Marxist college cultivation unit, and the national innovation and entrepreneurship education reform demonstration university. It has been approved as one national experimental teaching demonstration center, one national talent training model innovation experimental zone, two national joint training demonstration bases for master's degree students in education, and the Ministry of Education's national general colleges and universities Chinese excellent traditional culture inheritance base. There are 15 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 6 national characteristic majors, 1 national first-class undergraduate course, and 1 national excellent teacher training program reform project. It is the university with the most national teaching achievement awards in Hainan Province. In the past five years, students have won 575 national awards and 617 provincial awards in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions and subject competitions at or above the provincial and ministerial levels. The initial employment rate of graduates has ranked first among public undergraduate colleges in the province for six consecutive years. It is the only public undergraduate college that has received an A grade in the inspection and evaluation of employment and entrepreneurship work of college graduates in the province.

The academic level is high. Focus on building the "three major disciplines" of liberal arts and sciences, characteristic applied disciplines and emerging interdisciplinary disciplines, give full play to the leading and exemplary role of advantageous disciplines such as Marxist theory, Chinese language and literature, education, chemistry, ecology, and mathematics, and continuously improve the overall level of discipline construction. The school currently has 2 ministerial-level country and regional research bases, 10 provincial-level key research bases for humanities and social sciences, 1 provincial-level key new think tank, and 4 other provincial and ministerial-level platforms. The first humanities academician workstation in Hainan Province has been established; 3 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 7 provincial-level key laboratories, 4 provincial-level engineering research centers, and 19 provincial-level academician innovation platforms have been built. In the past five years, the university has won nearly 200 national scientific research projects, and achieved a breakthrough in major national social science fund projects; it has won more than 120 national and provincial and ministerial awards for outstanding scientific research achievements, and the first prize of the Ministry of Education's Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award (Humanities and Social Sciences) and the first prize of the National Education Science Research Outstanding Achievement Award have achieved a breakthrough. A total of 3,365 academic papers have been published, including 1,050 papers included in SCI and CSSCI, and papers were published for the first time in "Chinese Social Sciences" (English version) and "Science" (letter form); 282 books have been published, 121 patents have been approved; many think tank reports have been instructed by party and state leaders and provincial and ministerial leaders.

Solid service to local areas. The school takes serving basic education and regional economic and social development as its own responsibility. Since 2007, it has actively responded to the call of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, and carried out projects such as "Double 500 Normal Students and In-service Teachers Replacement Teaching Training" and "Weekend Mobile Teacher Training College", which have made important contributions to improving the level of basic education in Hainan Province and achieving balanced development of basic education. It has been affirmed by Comrade Liu Yandong, then State Councilor. One of the 20 universities in the country that have carried out the Sports and Aesthetic Education Immersion Action Plan, it has co-built the "Hainan Teacher Education Reform and Innovation Experimental Zone" with Danzhou City and Ding'an County. Facing the needs of Hainan's regional economic and social development, it has given full play to the advantages of multiple disciplines and made outstanding contributions in the development of the South China Sea, the construction of Hainan Ecological Province, Li culture education, education poverty alleviation, the protection and utilization of tropical plant resources, and the inheritance and innovation of Hainan's local culture. In the past three years, 103 new horizontal scientific research cooperation projects have been added. The school library has long focused on the collection of local documents such as the Hainan Li Nationality and the South China Sea region, and the historical documents of Southeast Asia. It is the library with the largest and richest collection of local documents in Hainan. The Hainan Biodiversity Museum created by the school fills the gap in the natural science museum in Hainan Province. The school also has a national university science and technology park, which has attracted 762 incubated enterprises, with a total output value of nearly 600 million yuan in 2021.

Open education is effective. It has carried out academic exchange activities with more than 60 countries and more than 100 universities and educational institutions, and established cooperative relations with 82 universities and educational institutions such as the University of Hawaii in the United States, the University of Chester in the United Kingdom, the University of Bad Homburg in Germany, and Hiroshima University in Japan. It co-organizes the undergraduate education major of radio and television director with the St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television in Russia, co-organizes the undergraduate major of preschool education with DePaul University in the United States, and co-establishes the major of software engineering with the National Institute of Information Technology in India. It has the only preparatory college for international students in Hainan, which is qualified to recruit students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and has co-established a Confucius Institute with Century University in Malaysia. As a receiving institution for Chinese government scholarship students, there are currently more than 1,000 international students from 47 countries. The school has signed a counterpart support agreement with Shaanxi Normal University, established cooperative relations with many universities such as Beijing Foreign Studies University, Beijing Normal University, Northeast Normal University, Southwest University, Heilongjiang University, Changchun University of Science and Technology, and established strategic cooperative relations with local governments such as Haikou City, Sansha City, Danzhou City, Dongfang City, Ding'an County, Qiongzhong County, and Fushun County, Sichuan Province.

The campus is harmonious and stable. Won the title of "National Civilized Campus" in the second National Civilized Campus Selection, and is the only award-winning university in Hainan Province.
