Lanzhou University is a national key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education, and is one of the key universities in the national "985 Project" and "211 Project". Lanzhou University has distinctive disciplines and a full range of disciplines, covering all 11 disciplines except military science. Lanzhou University was founded in 1909, with a campus area of ​​3,828 acres, 8 campuses, and 3 affiliated hospitals.

The school was founded in 1909 as Gansu Law and Politics School. It is the first modern higher education institution in Northwest China. In 1928, it was expanded to Lanzhou Sun Yat-sen University. In 1946, it was renamed National Lanzhou University. After the founding of New China, it was identified as one of the 14 comprehensive universities in the country during the adjustment of colleges and departments of higher education institutions. Since the reform and opening up, it has been selected as a construction university of the "211 Project" and the "985 Project". In 2002 and 2004, the Gansu Grassland Ecology Research Institute and Lanzhou Medical College were successively merged and returned to Lanzhou University. In 2017, it was selected as a world-class university construction university (Class A). In the course of more than 110 years of schooling, the school has adhered to the west and struggled for the country.
