Tarim University

Tarim University was founded in October 1958 by General Wang Zhen, then Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Reclamation. He served as honorary president during his lifetime. The school is one of the first undergraduate institutions approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee to have the right to confer bachelor's degrees. In 2003, it was granted the right to confer master's degrees. In May 2004, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be renamed Tarim University. In 2007, it was rated as "excellent" in the undergraduate teaching level evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In 2017, it became a "Ministry of Education Innovation and Entrepreneurship Demonstration University". In 2018, it was granted the right to confer doctoral degrees. In the same year, it passed the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching review and evaluation. The quality of talent training and school management level were fully recognized. In 2019, it entered the second batch of "three-dimensional education" comprehensive reform pilot universities of the Ministry of Education, and won the National May 1st Labor Award in the same year. In 2020, it was awarded the eighth batch of national demonstration units for ethnic unity and progress. In February 2021, it was awarded the title of "National Advanced Collective for Poverty Alleviation". It is now affiliated to the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps and is a university jointly built by the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps and the Ministry of Education.

The school is a comprehensive university with agricultural science as its advantage, life science as its feature, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as agriculture, science, engineering, medicine, literature, management, economics, law, education, art, and history. The school currently has 1,435 faculty and staff. It recruits students from 31 provinces and regions across the country, with more than 24,000 full-time students on campus, of which 68% are from the mainland. There are 16 colleges and 79 undergraduate majors. There are 4 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites and 12 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites. 4 autonomous region key disciplines, 1 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization point, and 23 master's degree authorization points. 1 national engineering laboratory, 1 national key laboratory cultivation base jointly built by the Corps and the Ministry of Science and Technology, 4 provincial key laboratories, 3 provincial engineering laboratories, 2 Corps collaborative innovation (cultivation) centers, 3 experimental stations of the Ministry of Agriculture, and 2 provincial key research bases for humanities and social sciences.

Since its establishment, the school has carried forward the fine traditions of Nanniwan and the style of the Anti-Japanese University, and cultivated the Populus euphratica spirit with the main connotation of "hard work, unremitting self-improvement, rooting in the frontier, and willingness to contribute", highlighting the distinctive school-running characteristics of "educating people with the Populus euphratica spirit and serving the prosperity of Xinjiang and the consolidation of the border", and has embarked on a distinctive, leapfrog and sustainable school revitalization and development path. In the 63 years since its establishment, the school has trained more than 70,000 graduates, and its employment rate has always been at the forefront of universities in the autonomous region. It has made outstanding contributions to the economic development, social progress, political power construction, national unity, and stability and border defense in Xinjiang, especially in southern Xinjiang. Employers generally evaluate that graduates from Tajikistan University "can go to the countryside, stay, be employed, and do a good job", and have excellent qualities such as political reliability, hard work, and strong practical ability. They have played an irreplaceable role in "stabilizing Xinjiang, developing Xinjiang, enriching the people, and consolidating the border".
