Kashgar University

Kashgar University is located in Kashgar, a famous historical and cultural city in China, an excellent tourist city in China, and is known as "five ports connecting eight countries and one road connecting Europe and Asia". It is a multidisciplinary undergraduate school in the westernmost part of the motherland with the mission of cultivating basic education teachers and applied talents needed for economic and social development.

The school was founded in 1962. Its predecessor was Kashgar Normal College. From its establishment to the end of 1978, it was the only higher normal college among the five higher education institutions in the autonomous region (Xinjiang University, Xinjiang Institute of Technology, Bayi Agricultural College, Xinjiang Medical College, Xinjiang Kashgar Normal College). It played an irreplaceable and important role in basic education, social stability and economic development in Xinjiang, especially in southern Xinjiang. In 1978, the school was upgraded to an undergraduate college and renamed Kashgar Normal College. In 2003, it obtained the qualification of a master's degree-granting institution and began to undertake the task of training master's students. In 2007, it achieved excellent results in the undergraduate teaching level evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In 2012, it was listed as a university in the basic capacity building project of colleges and universities in the central and western regions. In April 2015, it was renamed Kashgar University. In June 2016, it was identified as one of the 100 pilot universities for transformation and development in the country. In 1994 and 2009, it was awarded the honorary title of "National Model Collective for National Unity and Progress" by the State Council twice; in 2014, the Chinese Department was awarded the honorary title of "National Model Collective for National Unity and Progress" by the State Council.

The school currently has 16 teaching units and 55 undergraduate majors (including 4 professional directions): among them, there are 23 teacher-training majors and 32 non-teacher-training majors, covering nine disciplines of science, engineering, literature, education, art, law, economics, management, and history. There are 5 first-level master's degree authorization points and 7 master's professional degree authorization points. There are 1 national undergraduate comprehensive reform pilot project, 1 national off-campus practical education base for college students, 3 autonomous region-level key disciplines, 1 autonomous region key industry talent shortage major, 1 autonomous region innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration major, 1 autonomous region strategic emerging major, 2 autonomous region general colleges and universities humanities and social sciences key research bases, 2 autonomous region-level key laboratories, 3 experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 autonomous region-level engineering technology research center, and 1 autonomous region science and technology innovation team.

The school currently has 1,255 faculty members, including 804 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, 631 have a master's degree or above, accounting for 78.48% of the full-time teachers, including 156 doctors; 313 teachers with associate senior titles or above, accounting for 38.93% of the full-time teachers.

The school currently has 23,054 students. It has two campuses, Gaotai and Xinquan, covering an area of ​​1.6607 million square meters, with advanced teaching facilities and equipment and a comfortable teaching environment. The library has a total area of ​​53,000 square meters, with a collection of 1.38 million books and 700,000 electronic books. It subscribes to 13 databases such as CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, and Chaoxing, forming a collection resource system with multiple types and carriers including paper books, journals, electronic books, and databases; the campus network and 5G communication network cover the entire school, which can meet the needs of talent training in the information age; the total value of teaching instruments and equipment is 260 million yuan, with complete and high-standard teaching and experimental equipment and cultural, sports, health and other facilities to meet the needs of education and teaching, and comprehensively guarantee and serve the school's teaching, scientific research and talent training.

Since its establishment, the school has been under the care and attention of the Party Central Committee, the State Council, and the Ministry of Education, under the correct leadership of the Autonomous Region Party Committee, the People's Government, the Autonomous Region Education Working Committee, and the Education Department, and with the care and strong support of the provinces and cities that provide counterpart assistance to Xinjiang. The school has adhered to the university spirit of "toughness like poplars and dedication like red candles", condensed the school motto of "harmony, tolerance, and inspiration", and formed a school-running idea of ​​"taking stability as the premise, teaching as the center, discipline construction as the guide, improving teaching quality as the lifeline, focusing on the construction of the teaching staff, and cultivating qualified talents as the goal". It has not only made significant contributions to Xinjiang's basic education, but also accumulated rich experience in higher education, formed its own unique school-running characteristics, forged a university spirit and university culture with profound connotations, and insisted on serving Xinjiang's basic education and economic and social development, especially in southern Xinjiang, and has trained more than 100,000 basic education teachers and various specialized talents with good ideological and moral cultivation and solid professional skills.
