National University of Defense Technology

The predecessor of the National University of Defense Technology was the Military Engineering College of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, which was founded in Harbin in 1953. It was the famous "Harbin Military Engineering College". General Chen Geng served as the first president and political commissar. "Harbin Military Engineering College" was founded during the Korean War and is the first higher military engineering college in New China. The construction and development of the school has always been highly valued by the state and the military. It is one of the 156 key construction projects of the country in the first five-year plan, one of the 20 key universities in the country determined by the CPC Central Committee in 1959, the first batch of institutions approved by the State Council to confer master's and doctoral degrees, the first batch of institutions in the country to pilot graduate schools, and the only national "double first-class" construction university in the military.
