Hebei University of Geosciences was founded in 1953. It is one of the five universities directly under the former Ministry of Geology. The Civil Aviation Flight University of China, referred to as "China Flight University", was founded in 1956. Xinjiang Medical University is located at the foot of the scenic Xuelian Mountain in Urumqi. It is the only medical university in Xinjiang jointly built by the province and the ministry. With the care and support of Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai, the predecessor of the school, "Xinjiang Medical College", was officially included in the 156 key projects of the National "First Five-Year Plan". The school was founded in 1954 and completed and enrolled students in July 1956. In June 1998, Xinjiang Medical College and Xinjiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine merged to form Xinjiang Medical University. On August 26, 2016, the school was officially approved to become a university jointly built by the province and the ministry.
