Shanxi Open University

Shanxi Open University is a new type of university that provides academic and non-academic continuing education services to members of society based on modern information technology, aiming to promote equal educational opportunities, sharing of high-quality educational resources, and continuous improvement of national quality.

The predecessor of Shanxi Open University was Shanxi Radio and Television University.

In 1978, Comrade Deng Xiaoping personally advocated and instructed the establishment of Radio and Television University. Shanxi Radio and Television University was officially established in February 1979. On December 18, 2020, Shanxi Open University was officially unveiled.

Over the past 40 years, Shanxi Open University has shared the fate of the times and developed with the society. It has achieved the transformation from "seeking growth by quantity" to "strengthening strength by quality", from academic compensation to knowledge compensation, from diploma improvement to skill improvement, and from online to online and offline integration, fully meeting the teaching requirements of "Internet + Education" and the needs of education and teaching at all levels and types, providing talent resources for Shanxi's economic and social development, and accumulating low-cost and high-efficiency experience in running higher education, distance education and vocational education.

Over the past 40 years, Shanxi Open University has taken moral education as its fundamental task, adhered to the school-running philosophy of "respecting learning and benefiting all, and teaching without distinction", and supported by modern information technology. It has formed a provincial, municipal and county-level school-running system covering urban and rural areas and serving the entire province, with provincial schools as the leader, municipal branches as the backbone, and county-level workstations (learning centers) as the basis. It has trained more than 350,000 graduates of higher education, 1.5 million non-academic education training, and currently has more than 90,000 learners.

The school adheres to the equal emphasis on academic education and non-academic education, and is committed to building an education system that serves lifelong learning for all people. In terms of academic education, it actively carries out undergraduate, junior college and technical secondary school continuing education, explores graduate education, and strives to expand school channels. The open education diploma is known as the "international academic green card", the rural cadres' academic improvement project helps the rural revitalization of Shanxi, and the National Open University Mining College actively serves the energy revolution. In terms of non-academic continuing education, under the guidance of the Provincial Party Committee Organization Department, it has hosted the Shanxi Cadre Online College for more than 10 years. At present, there are more than 300,000 online students, which has become a new highland for cadre education in our province. Close cooperation with government departments and enterprises and institutions, vigorously carry out cadre training, job skills training, vocational qualification certificate education, community education, elderly education, etc., to build a broad platform for the construction of our province's lifelong education system.
