Shenyang University of Technology is a multi-disciplinary research and application university focusing on engineering. It was founded in 1949. In 1985, it was renamed from Shenyang Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering to Shenyang University of Technology. It was originally an institution affiliated to the Ministry of Machinery Industry of the People's Republic of China. It is co-constructed by the central and local governments and mainly managed by Liaoning Province. It is listed as a key university in the province to strive for domestic first-class universities in the "double first-class" construction.

The school consists of the Central Campus, Xingshun Campus, National University Science and Technology Park in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, and Liaoyang Branch in Liaoyang City.
