Liaoning Normal University is a provincial key university located in Dalian, a beautiful coastal city in northern China. It is a key university in Liaoning Province's "Double First-Class" construction and "domestic high-level university", an implementation school of the Ministry of Education's "Excellent Middle School Teacher Training Program", and the chairman unit of the Liaoning Education Development Alliance. It is a base for basic education teacher training and continuing education in Liaoning Province, an educational science research and consulting base, a university teacher training base, and a scientific research base that meets the needs of regional economic construction and social development. It has now become the largest and leading teacher education center in Liaoning Province.

As one of the first batch of higher normal colleges established after the founding of New China, the school was founded in September 1951 and was originally built as the Dalian Normal College. In April 1953, it was renamed Dalian Normal College. In July 1958, Dalian Normal College and Dalian Foreign Language College merged to form Dalian Normal University. In July 1960, it was renamed Liaoning Normal College. In December 1983, it was renamed Liaoning Normal University.

Over the past 70 years, the school has worked together with the motherland, developed with the times, worked hard, and strived for self-improvement, and has trained more than 250,000 qualified talents for the country and society. The school has always adhered to the socialist direction of running schools, fully implemented the education policy of the Party and the State, adhered to the school motto of "being virtuous and knowledgeable, being a model for others", and adhered to the school philosophy of "people-oriented, quality first". While cultivating senior professionals who integrate scientific spirit and humanistic spirit and have strong practical ability, it is actively committed to modern teacher education, focusing on the long-term development of the school's comprehensiveness and internationalization, emancipating the mind, seizing opportunities, deepening reforms, and constantly gathering development forces and enhancing development momentum. It has accumulated rich experience in running schools and formed an excellent tradition of running schools. The school's strength in running schools has been significantly enhanced, and various undertakings have developed continuously, healthily and harmoniously. It is moving towards the goal of building a high-level comprehensive university with distinctive characteristics of teacher education.

The school currently has 1,862 faculty and staff and 1,189 full-time teachers. There are more than 13,000 undergraduate students and more than 6,200 master's and doctoral students. The school campus currently has two campuses (including Huanghe Road Campus and Xishan Lake Campus), with 21 colleges, a graduate school and an innovation and entrepreneurship college. There are 6 postdoctoral research stations, 9 first-level doctoral programs, 56 second-level doctoral programs, and 1 doctoral professional degree authorization point; 25 first-level master's programs, 106 second-level master's programs, and 11 professional master's programs; 4 first-class characteristic disciplines (first-level disciplines) of Liaoning Province's higher education institutions, of which 3 first-level disciplines have been selected as Liaoning Province's "first-class construction disciplines"; 8 Liaoning Province key disciplines.

The school currently has the Marine Economy and Sustainable Development Research Center (a key research base for humanities and social sciences jointly built by the ministry and the province), the National and Local Joint Engineering Technology Research Center for Marine Biopharmaceuticals (co-built with the approval of the National Development and Reform Commission), and the Marine Gene Engineering Drugs and Natural Active Products Engineering Research Center (a major scientific and technological platform for colleges and universities in Liaoning Province); there are currently 9 provincial key laboratories, 4 provincial university key laboratories; 1 provincial engineering technology research center; 2 provincial collaborative innovation centers, 6 provincial university key research bases for humanities and social sciences, 5 provincial think tanks, 1 municipal think tank, 18 other types of research bases; 11 provincial university innovation teams; and participated in the preparation of 4 provincial collaborative innovation centers; there are 9 municipal key laboratories and 1 municipal engineering research center; 8 new school-level think tanks have been cultivated and built; there are college social science associations and science and technology associations; the Niuheliang Hongshan Culture Research Institute and the Institute of Religious Issues have been established. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, teachers of the school presided over 1,605 completed and ongoing research projects; published 371 monographs; published 7,749 papers, of which 923 were included in SCI; obtained 168 authorized patents; obtained 66 provincial and ministerial awards; signed 130 "four-technology" contracts; and 19 advisory suggestions were approved by provincial and ministerial leaders.

The school actively builds a large platform for international cooperation and has established exchange and cooperation relations with 118 universities and research institutions in 23 countries and regions. With the approval of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, the school cooperated with Missouri State University in the United States to build an international business school. The School of International Education is a secondary college of our school that specializes in receiving and training foreign students and overseas Chinese students. It is a Chinese language education base of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Bureau of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee. It is one of the colleges and universities designated by the Ministry of Education to receive Chinese government scholarship students. It is a demonstration base for overseas Chinese education in Liaoning Province and a demonstration university for overseas Chinese work in China. It receives more than 1,000 foreign students from 68 countries and regions each year and has a Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) test site. The Confucius Institute jointly built by the school and the University of Milan in Italy has won the title of "Global Advanced Confucius Institute" many times.

The school has been successively rated as an advanced unit for party building and ideological and political education work in the country, an advanced unit for entrepreneurship education research and practice in colleges and universities in the country, a typical university with typical experience in deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform in the country, an advanced unit for youth education work, an advanced unit for social practice activities, an advanced unit for property management in colleges and universities, an advanced unit for logistics information and publicity in colleges and universities, an advanced unit for quality management QC results in the family planning system, an advanced unit for juvenile crime research work of the Ministry of Education, a national language and writing standardization demonstration school, an advanced collective for national language and writing work, and an advanced test station for Putonghua proficiency test. It has been successively rated as an advanced grassroots party organization in Liaoning Province, a demonstration university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform in Liaoning Province, and an advanced unit for ideological and political work, student status management, graduate education and degree work, college student employment, college student mental health education, Communist Youth League work, rule of law in school management, and study abroad in China in ordinary colleges and universities in Liaoning Province. It has been rated as an advanced party committee and civilized unit in the province and city for many consecutive years.
