Liaoning University of Science and Technology is a multidisciplinary university that recruits students from all over the country, focusing on engineering, covering seven major categories including engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, and art. The school was founded in 1948. Formerly known as Anshan Iron and Steel Institute, it is one of the earliest metallurgical universities in my country. In 2006, it was renamed Liaoning University of Science and Technology. The school currently has 1 first-level doctoral program, 6 second-level doctoral programs, 9 first-level master's programs, 39 second-level master's programs, and 64 majors. The school has the right to grant master's degrees to in-service personnel with equivalent academic qualifications, the right to grant engineering master's degrees and master of business administration (MBA) degrees, and the right to recommend graduate students.

Liaoning University of Science and Technology is the first metallurgical industry school led by the Communist Party of China. It was founded in 1948, and Anshan Industrial College was established in 1949. It was changed to Anshan Branch of Northeast Polytechnic in 1950, and upgraded to Anshan Iron and Steel Institute at the undergraduate level in 1958. In 1998, it was transferred from the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry to the Liaoning Provincial Government, and implemented a system of co-construction by the central and local governments and management by Liaoning Province. With the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was renamed Anshan University of Science and Technology in 2002 and Liaoning University of Science and Technology in 2006.

Over the past 70 years since its establishment, the school has developed into a multidisciplinary university with engineering as the main discipline and coordinated development of science, literature, economics, management, law, and art. In 2007, the school won excellent results in the undergraduate teaching level evaluation of the Ministry of Education. State-owned enterprises such as Minmetals, Baowu Steel, Anshan Iron and Steel, Hesteel, Baosteel, and Baotou Steel all have graduates from our school serving as chairman, general manager and other important positions.

The school is located in Anshan City, Liaoning Province, the steel capital of the motherland, covering an area of ​​more than 1.84 million square meters. There are 19 colleges, 1 teaching department and 1 engineering training center, with a total of 66 undergraduate majors. The school has strong disciplinary research strength. It has the most complete iron and steel metallurgy discipline system in the country. The pioneering coking and refractory disciplines fill the gap in the history of China's metallurgical education and enjoy a good reputation at home and abroad. The chemical engineering and technology discipline is a "first-class discipline in Liaoning Province", and the metallurgical engineering discipline is a characteristic discipline in Liaoning Province. Since the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan", the school has undertaken 2,056 scientific research projects at all levels and types, including 105 national projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Social Science Foundation, with a science and technology fund of 540 million yuan. 1,044 patents were authorized, and it was rated as the second batch of Liaoning Province's high-value patent cultivation center. The school has made outstanding achievements in the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, continuously expanding development space and promoting the transformation of achievements. The school's science and technology park was established in 1996. It was recognized as the first batch of provincial university science and technology parks in 2002, and was recognized as a national university science and technology park in 2010. The "High-temperature resistant colorless and transparent polyimide (film) material project" carried out by the school in cooperation with Liaoning Aoke Group is the largest scientific and technological achievement transformation project in our province's colleges and universities in recent years. The project will solve the "bottleneck" problem in the production of high-end polyimide and wide-width CPI films in China. In 2020, CPI film, as a key component of "Tianwen-1" and "Chang'e-5", flew to Mars and the moon with the probe.

The school's international exchanges and cooperation are becoming more and more extensive. Under the guidance of the national "Belt and Road" initiative, the school has given full play to its own advantages and actively strengthened cooperation and exchanges with colleges and universities and research institutes in countries along the "Belt and Road". At present, it has established partnerships with more than 60 colleges and research institutions from the United States, Britain, Russia, Australia and Canada, and signed friendly cooperation agreements with 45 colleges and universities. Since the enrollment of international students in China in 1996, the school has been expanding in scale, and the types of majors and academic qualifications have been gradually improved. In 2009, it was approved as a training unit for foreign students (doctoral) scholarships from the Liaoning Provincial Government, and in 2014, it was approved as a training unit for Chinese Government Scholarships (Master). In 2021, it was approved for one special project for international talent training from the China Scholarship Council and one Sino-foreign cooperative education project from the Ministry of Education. The school currently enrolls 53 undergraduate majors taught in Chinese, 7 undergraduate majors taught in English, and 15 graduate majors, achieving full coverage of undergraduate, master and doctoral degree talent training.
