Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine

The predecessor of Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine was the Guangxi Provincial Nanning District Medical Research Institute established in 1934. It was founded in 1956, renamed Guangxi College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1958, upgraded to Guangxi College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1964, and merged with Nanning Medical College in 1970. In March 2012, it was officially renamed Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It is a national university for basic capacity construction in central and western China and a university jointly built by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The school focuses on traditional Chinese medicine, and has coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as medicine, science, engineering, and management. It has distinct characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine and ethnic medicine, close integration of production, education, research, and medicine, and outstanding advantages in foreign exchanges and cooperation. It has two campuses, Xianhu and Mingxiu, with a total area of ​​1,310.99 acres. There are 16 colleges and 3 directly affiliated public teaching departments. There are 14 affiliated hospitals (including 3 directly affiliated hospitals and 11 local affiliated hospitals), 1 attached Chinese medicine school, 1 school-run pharmaceutical factory, and 1 independent college. In the fourth round of national discipline evaluation, traditional Chinese medicine ranked in the top 50% in the country, and traditional Chinese medicine and integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine ranked in the top 70%.

The school focuses on the research of traditional Chinese medicine and Zhuang-Yao medicine, strengthens the construction of scientific research innovation bases and scientific and technological innovation platforms, adds one national clinical research base of traditional Chinese medicine, and achieves a "zero" breakthrough in national scientific research innovation platforms; Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medicine Science Experimental Center is one of the largest innovation sharing platforms for traditional Chinese medicine and ethnic medicine in the country. There are 3 key research laboratories of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 4 third-level key laboratories of traditional Chinese medicine research of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 4 key laboratories of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, 8 key laboratories of Guangxi universities (including cultivation), 4 key laboratories of Guangxi Health Commission (including cultivation), and 4 school-level international joint laboratories. It has 1 academician workstation, 3 Guangxi collaborative innovation centers, 2 engineering technology research centers of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, 1 engineering research center of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, 1 university-national technology transfer institution cooperation platform, 1 autonomous region-level technology transfer demonstration institution, 2 science and technology innovation platforms jointly built by the school, the local government, the school and the enterprise, and 2 provincial high-end think tanks. Since 1970, Professor Zhao Yi has participated in Tu Youyou's "523" malaria prevention and treatment research project and made important contributions to the pharmacological effects and mechanisms of artemisinin. In the past three years, the school has undertaken a total of 199 national scientific research projects, 337 provincial and ministerial projects, and 904 departmental and bureau-level projects, with a funding of 199 million yuan; won 163 scientific and technological awards at all levels, including 2 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and 24 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards; published more than 190 scientific and technological monographs, published more than 7,800 scientific and technological papers, and obtained 594 patent authorizations.

Compound Fufangteng mixture, dragon's blood, and mango cough tablets have become the flagship products of Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine Pharmaceutical Factory. Artemisinin, Gynostemma pentaphyllum and other series of products have also created good economic benefits for the development of many pharmaceutical companies in Guangxi. The transformation of research results such as "Screening of functional components of bulk crop waste and product development research" and "Key technologies and applications for industrialized breeding of seawater nucleus-free pearls" into production has produced significant economic benefits and good social benefits, making important contributions to local economic construction.

The school gives full play to the unique advantages of traditional Chinese medicine and actively participates in the prevention and control of the new crown pneumonia epidemic. Since the outbreak, the school has sent 62 medical staff to Wuhan, 1 expert to help Cambodia fight the epidemic, 1 expert to participate in the Chinese short-term anti-epidemic medical team to Comoros, and 11 experts to participate in the establishment of the Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment Expert Group. A total of 7 Guangxi emergency special funds and 2 national high-end foreign experts introduction plan for the prevention and control of new crown pneumonia special projects, "Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment of New Coronavirus Pneumonia Prevention and Treatment Program Clinical Application" New Crown Pneumonia Emergency Science and Technology Research Project through clinical research, the Guangxi characteristic traditional Chinese medicine prevention and treatment of new coronavirus (2019-nCoV) pneumonia diagnosis and treatment program.

The school makes full use of its talent and technical advantages, actively carries out technical assistance work with grassroots hospitals, and goes deep into the communities and rural areas of more than 50 counties and cities in the region to carry out traditional Chinese medicine culture, technology, service "three going to the countryside" activities and free clinics, so that the people can get high-level diagnosis and treatment services around them, which greatly alleviates the problem of "difficulty in seeing a doctor" for the people. At the same time, the application of new technologies has also reduced the medical burden of the people to a certain extent, and has been widely praised by the people.

Cultural inheritance and innovation show characteristics

The school follows the roots and always regards cultural inheritance and innovation as its historical mission. The school has conducted research on Zhuang, Yao and other ethnic medicines, and has achieved a series of research results. It has established a quality standard system for Zhuang and Yao medicines, and published a series of monographs and textbooks such as "History of Zhuang Medicine", "Chinese Zhuang Medicine", and "Zhuang Medicine Thread Moxibustion Therapy". The school attaches great importance to promoting and inheriting China's excellent traditional culture and traditional Chinese medicine culture. Walking into the Xianhu campus, you will see the morning bell and evening drum tower that reminds students to cherish time and strive for self-improvement. There is the Medical Saint Square and Zhongjing Avenue with a statue of Zhang Zhongjing. There is a Chinese medicine history and culture corridor on the south side of the large lawn square in front of the teaching building. The cultural stones on both sides of the school road are engraved with classic Chinese medicine works such as "Huangdi Neijing" and "Treatise on Febrile Diseases". There are large murals "Qihuang Lunyi" and "Xingtan Lecture" on both sides of the library gate. In the teaching building, there are "Medical Student Oath" and inspirational mottos of famous doctors and masters, Chinese medicine culture and Chinese herbal medicine knowledge propaganda posters. There are also Chinese medicine cultural landscape buildings such as Yaoshishan and Shennong Pavilion, which integrate the long-standing Chinese tradition with the profound Chinese medicine culture, embodying a strong atmosphere of Chinese medicine culture and fully demonstrating the profound and unique charm of Chinese medicine culture.

The school began to train international students in 1976 and is a talent training base for the China-ASEAN Traditional Medicine Exchange and Cooperation Center of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The school makes full use of its own characteristics and advantages to serve the country's "Belt and Road" initiative, and has successively established the China-Thailand Traditional Medicine Research Joint Laboratory, the China-Malaysia Traditional Chinese Medicine Center, the China-Canada Zebrafish Traditional Chinese Medicine Screening Joint Laboratory, the China-Australia Traditional Medicine Modern Research Joint Laboratory, and the China-ASEAN Traditional Medicine Research International Cooperation Joint Laboratory, etc., actively promoting cooperation and exchanges with other countries (regions) in traditional Chinese medicine, ethnic medicine, medical care, talent training, scientific research and development, etc., forming a new pattern of foreign education centered on ASEAN countries and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and radiating the world.
