Guilin Medical College

Guilin Medical College is a general college directly under the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is one of the first batch of pilot colleges of the "Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program" project of the Ministry of Education and an excellent college in the undergraduate teaching level evaluation of the Ministry of Education. It is known as the "shining medical pearl of Guangxi".

Guilin Medical College was founded in 1935. Its predecessor was the Guangxi Provincial Guilin Advanced Midwifery School. It is one of the earliest medical colleges in the country. In 1958, the school was upgraded to Guilin Medical College, and in 1987, it was upgraded to Guilin Medical College. In 1993, it was qualified to recruit foreign students, in 2006, it was granted the right to confer master's degrees, in 2014, it was listed as a doctoral degree authorization project construction unit, in 2015, it was approved to establish a postdoctoral research workstation, in 2021, it was approved as a doctoral degree awarding unit, and approved as a clinical medicine doctoral degree authorization point. The school passed the undergraduate teaching work qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education in 1996, and was awarded the "excellent" grade in the undergraduate teaching work level evaluation of the Ministry of Education in 2006. In 2016, it passed the undergraduate teaching work review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education.

The school covers an area of ​​more than 1,500 acres. It currently has three campuses in Lingui, Dongcheng, and Lequn. It has 23 colleges (departments, departments) including Basic Medical College, Clinical Medical College, and School of Pharmacy, 9 affiliated hospitals, and 28 clinical internship hospitals. There are 6 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points and 7 master's professional degree authorization points. The full-time general higher education has 26 undergraduate majors such as clinical medicine, pharmacy, and biotechnology, and 4 higher vocational education majors. The school recruits students from 30 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions across the country. At present, it has nearly 30,000 full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students, international students, and other types of students.

The school has more than 6,800 faculty and medical staff. Nearly 50% of the full-time teachers have doctoral degrees, and more than 70% of the teachers have senior professional and technical positions. Among the teachers, there are more than 670 master's supervisors and 30 doctoral supervisors.

There are 9 scientific research platforms at the provincial and ministerial levels and above, and 18 municipal and departmental scientific research platforms such as the Guangxi University Key Laboratory and the Guangxi Health Commission Key Laboratory. There are 2 autonomous region-level collaborative education platforms, 2 autonomous region-level off-campus practical education bases for college students, 1 Guangxi University "College Student Entrepreneurship Demonstration Base", 1 autonomous region-level demonstrative modern industrial college, and 1 physician humanistic medicine practice skills training base.

In the past five years, the school has undertaken more than 1,900 scientific research projects of various types, and won a total of 109 National Natural Science Foundation projects and Social Science Foundation projects in 2020 and 2021. More than 30 scientific research achievement awards at the provincial and ministerial levels and above, and more than 440 national patents have been authorized. More than 4,400 academic papers have been published, and the total number of ESI highly cited papers ranks 7th among Guangxi universities. According to the "Statistical Results of Chinese Science and Technology Papers" published by the Chinese Institute of Scientific and Technological Information, our school has been ranked among the top 100 most influential academic papers in Chinese universities in 2015 and 2016. "Huaxia Medicine" sponsored by the school is a statistical source journal of the Chinese Academic Journal Comprehensive Evaluation Database, a full-text online journal of "China Journal Network" and "Wanfang Data-Digital Journal Group", a journal included in the American Chemical Abstracts, and an excellent science and technology journal in Guangxi.

The school takes quality engineering as a starting point to deepen education and teaching reforms, strengthen the construction of teaching connotation, and comprehensively improve the quality of talent training. The two majors of clinical medicine and stomatology entered the first batch of undergraduate enrollment in Guangxi. In 2020 and 2021, the first batch of undergraduate enrollment in Guangxi ranked second among Guangxi universities for two consecutive years. The school has won 1 national teaching achievement award and 52 provincial teaching achievement awards. Students have achieved remarkable results in various national and autonomous region-level skill competitions. They won the overall championship and two first prizes in the first national nurse (English) professional skill competition. They won the special prize and first prize in 9 projects in the national medical college pharmacy/traditional Chinese medicine college students' experimental skill competition. They have won the national second prize and third prize in the finals of the national medical college medical student clinical skill competition for many times, and won the special prize in the National College English Proficiency Competition (NECCS). In the past 10 years, the average pass rate of clinical medicine students participating in the national practicing physician qualification examination has been more than 10% higher than the national average, and the average pass rate of nursing undergraduates participating in the national nurse qualification examination has reached more than 98%. The school has been rated as "Guangxi's Outstanding Unit for Graduate Employment and Entrepreneurship of General Colleges and Universities" for 16 consecutive years.

The school has 4 directly affiliated hospitals, with more than 2,600 open beds, more than 2.66 million outpatient visits per year, more than 140,000 inpatients per year, and nearly 50,000 surgeries per year. It is a medical center in northern Guangxi and surrounding areas. The Affiliated Hospital of Guilin Medical College is a national comprehensive tertiary-level Class A hospital, a national drug clinical trial base, an international emergency rescue center network hospital and an international SOS emergency center designated by the Ministry of Health, a national county-level hospital blood purification training base, a national resident physician standardized training base, a Chinese stroke center alliance unit, a Chinese chest pain center certified hospital, the first batch of national clinical teaching and training demonstration centers, Guangxi clinical pathology quality control center and Guilin diagnosis center, Guangxi thalassemia prenatal diagnosis Guilin sub-center, and has been rated as a national advanced health system collective, a national general hospital Chinese medicine demonstration unit, a national people assured demonstration hospital, a national medical service improvement action excellent hospital and demonstration hospital, and the autonomous region's "Top Ten Hospitals". The Second Affiliated Hospital of Guilin Medical College is the first batch of Chinese atrial fibrillation center certified units, Chinese chest pain center certified units, national labor analgesia pilot hospitals, the first batch of national breast cancer standardized diagnosis and treatment demonstration center construction units, national advanced stroke center units, a national baby-friendly hospital, an autonomous region civilized unit, the only aviation medical rescue standby base hospital in northern Guangxi, the only snake bite treatment center in northern Guangxi, Guilin City critical maternal and childbirth treatment center, and critical newborn treatment center. The Stomatological Hospital Affiliated to Guilin Medical College is the second directly affiliated hospital of a medical school in Guangxi and the first in northern Guangxi. It has a master's degree in stomatology.

The school has established the Guangxi Guilin Medical College Education Development Foundation, which accepts donations from the school's faculty and staff, alumni, enterprises, institutions and social groups to support and promote the development of the school's education. Among them, Jiang Rensheng, a 1973 alumnus and chairman of a Chinese listed company, donated 50 million yuan in his personal name to build a new campus library, which is the largest individual donation to Guangxi universities so far. The donation was included in the "2014 China Donation 100 List".

The school gives full play to its own disciplinary characteristics and advantages, actively integrates into the construction of "Magnificent Guangxi", is based on ASEAN and countries along the "Belt and Road", and actively conducts international exchanges and cooperation with universities in Japan, South Korea, Europe and the United States, and strives to create a new situation for international cooperation and exchanges in the school. It has now carried out inter-school friendly exchanges and cooperation with universities or institutions in countries and regions such as Japan, Spain, Hungary, Malaysia, the United States, Australia, Vietnam, Thailand, etc.
