Youjiang Medical College for Nationalities

Youjiang Medical College for Nationalities is a full-time undergraduate college directly under the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is located in Baise City, Guangxi, the birthplace of the Baise Uprising led by Comrade Deng Xiaoping. The school is responsible for the training of undergraduates, postgraduates and international students. It is the largest higher medical education center, medical and health service center, and medical science research center in the border area of ​​Guangxi, Yunnan and Guizhou.

History The predecessor of the school was Baise Higher Medical College founded in 1958. In 1978, it was upgraded to an undergraduate medical school and renamed Youjiang Medical College for Nationalities. In 1982, it was granted the right to confer bachelor's degrees. In 1997, it passed the national undergraduate teaching qualification assessment for ordinary colleges and universities. In 2000, it was qualified to recruit foreign students. In 2007, it was evaluated by the Ministry of Education for undergraduate teaching and received an excellent grade. In 2013, it became a master's degree-granting institution. In 2015, it was awarded the title of "National Civilized Unit", "National University with Typical Experience in Graduate Employment" (Top 50 National Universities for Employment), and the Ministry of Education's 6-year certification period for clinical medicine. In 2017, it successfully passed the review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching by the Ministry of Education, and in 2019, it was included in the project construction unit of Guangxi's newly added doctoral degree-granting institutions.

School conditions The school covers an area of ​​1.0655 million square meters, with a total building area of ​​222,900 square meters for teaching, scientific research and administrative buildings (including those under construction), of which the total building area of ​​teaching, scientific research and auxiliary buildings is 183,300 square meters, the building area of ​​administrative buildings is 39,600 square meters, and the student dormitory area is 123,200 square meters. It has a total value of 196.2318 million yuan in teaching and scientific research equipment, and a library collection of 826,000 books; it hosts provincial academic journals "Journal of Youjiang Medical College for Nationalities" and "Youjiang Medicine"; it has rich network information resources such as student self-learning platforms, and achieves full coverage of the campus network; it has a fully functional clinical skills training center and a national standardized training base for resident physicians; as of November 15, 2021, it has 2 directly affiliated hospitals and 5 non-directly affiliated hospitals and 77 teaching practice bases.

School Scale The school has 13 secondary colleges, including Basic Medical College, Clinical Medical College, School of Public Health and Management, School of Pharmacy, School of Medical Laboratory, School of Medical Imaging, Graduate School, School of Nursing, School of International Language and Culture Education, School of Adult Education (School of Continuing Education), School of Marxism, School of Stomatology, and School of General Medicine, and 1 department (division) of the Sports Department. It offers 30 full-time undergraduate and junior college majors and professional directions, forming a multi-level and multi-type school-running pattern of ordinary undergraduate education, junior college education, graduate education, international student education, and adult education. The school currently has 15,199 full-time students, including 11,002 undergraduates, 151 preparatory students, 974 graduate students, 191 international students, and 2,881 higher vocational and technical college students; there are 11,519 part-time students of various types.

Disciplines and majors Covering four categories: medicine, science, literature, and management; a total of 30 full-time undergraduate and junior college majors are set up, among which clinical medicine and stomatology have entered the first batch of undergraduate enrollment in Guangxi. The school currently has 2 first-class (cultivation) disciplines in Guangxi, 1 Guangxi Clinical Medicine Research Center, 2 key disciplines of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 9 key disciplines in Guangxi, 7 Guangxi higher education institutions with advantageous and distinctive majors, 6 autonomous region specialty majors and experimental training teaching base (center) construction projects, 5 autonomous region specialty majors and curriculum integration construction projects, 1 national first-class undergraduate major construction point, 5 autonomous region first-class undergraduate major construction points; 2 autonomous region-level boutique online open courses, 4 autonomous region-level boutique video open courses, 15 autonomous region-level first-class undergraduate courses, including 2 autonomous region-level virtual simulation experimental teaching projects; there are 3 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points in basic medicine, clinical medicine, and medical technology. Covering 21 second-level disciplines, there are 5 categories of master's professional degree authorization points in clinical medicine, stomatology, nursing, public health, and translation.

Scientific Research In the past five years, the school has received 64 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 2 National Social Science Funds, 6 humanities and social science projects of the Ministry of Education, 155 Guangxi Science and Technology Plan projects, and more than 64 million yuan in vertical funding for scientific research projects at all levels. The construction of scientific research platforms and innovation teams has made new breakthroughs. It has one of the second batch of key research bases of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission; it has been approved to establish one Guangxi postdoctoral innovation practice base; it has obtained one Guangxi clinical research center for hepatobiliary diseases, one Guangxi key laboratory for basic research and transformation of bone and joint degenerative diseases, one Guangxi biomedical materials engineering research center for bone and joint degenerative diseases, one Guangxi Natural Science Foundation innovation team, and two high-level innovation teams of Guangxi universities. Won 1 first prize, 3 second prizes, and 3 third prizes in the Guangxi Science and Technology Progress Award; 1 second prize and 1 third prize in the Guangxi Natural Science Award; 2 second prizes and 3 third prizes in the Guangxi Social Science Achievement Award; and obtained more than 200 national authorized patents. Faculty The school currently has 934 full-time teachers, including 481 senior professional and technical personnel. Talent Training In the 63 years since its establishment, the school has trained more than 50,000 medical graduates who are "able to go down, use, and stay", of which the proportion of ethnic minority students reached 65%. They are widely distributed in grassroots medical and health institutions, and most of them have become the business backbone of their units. According to statistics, the overall satisfaction of employers with the school's graduates is over 94%. In recent years, the quality of undergraduate talent training has been steadily improved. In 2017, the fifth national college of medicine and pharmacy/traditional Chinese medicine college students experimental skills competition won 1 special prize and 2 second prizes. In 2017, the first "Ze Zhong Cup" National Medical Laboratory Technology College Students Online Morphology Reading Grand Prix won 1 third prize and 1 excellent prize. In 2018, our school won the second prize in the South China Division of the Ninth National College of Medical Colleges and Universities Clinical Skills Competition. In 2019, the sixth national college of medicine and pharmacy/traditional Chinese medicine college students experimental skills competition won 1 first prize and 1 second prize. In 2019, the National College of Stomatology (Department) Undergraduate Clinical Operation Skills Demonstration Competition won 1 third prize. Foreign Exchange The school has signed education cooperation and exchange agreements with educational institutions in many countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, Malaysia, Thailand, etc., and has enrolled 571 international students from more than 20 countries. Since 2014, our school has carried out a Sino-foreign cooperative education project in oral care with the University of New Lanarkshire in the United Kingdom, and the employment rate of graduates has reached more than 95%. The school has raised funds to organize and implement the "Double Hundred Project". During the 13th Five-Year Plan, a total of 136 outstanding teachers were selected to study abroad and pursue doctoral degrees. In the past five years, the school has invited 277 experts and scholars from the United States, Germany, Britain, Thailand and other countries to the school for academic exchanges, and a total of 226 teachers have been selected to exchange and visit abroad.
