Gansu Agricultural University

Gansu Agricultural University is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Gansu Provincial People's Government, one of the 100 key universities in the central and western regions of the country, and a high-level university in Gansu Province. Its predecessor was the National Veterinary College founded in Lanzhou in October 1946. In 1950, it was renamed Northwest Veterinary College; in 1951, it was renamed Northwest Animal Husbandry and Veterinary College; in 1958, it merged with the Gansu Agricultural College under construction to form Gansu Agricultural University.

The school is located in Anning District, Lanzhou City, covering an area of ​​1.65 million square meters and a building area of ​​660,000 square meters. There are 23 colleges (teaching departments), 66 undergraduate majors, including 6 national first-class undergraduate majors such as food science and engineering, 5 national characteristic majors such as veterinary medicine, 9 provincial first-class undergraduate majors such as biotechnology; 1 national key discipline (grassland science), 1 key discipline of the Ministry of Agriculture and 18 provincial key disciplines. 4 postdoctoral research stations, 8 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 1 interdisciplinary doctoral degree authorization point, 1 professional doctoral degree authorization category, 19 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, and 9 professional degree authorization categories. There is 1 national key laboratory, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 13 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 48 ​​provincial and ministerial co-construction and provincial key laboratories, engineering laboratories and various research centers (bases).

The school has 1,530 faculty and staff, including 1,226 full-time teachers and 647 people with senior professional titles. There are 3 members of the subject evaluation group of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council, 2 members of the expert guidance group of the Ministry of Agriculture, 15 post scientists of the modern agricultural industry technology system of the Ministry of Agriculture; 29 leading talents of Gansu Province, 24 Feitian scholars of Gansu Province, 2 scientific and technological heroes of Gansu Province, 3 specially appointed scientific and technological experts of Gansu Province, 8 chief experts of the modern agricultural industry technology system of Gansu Province, 253 talents of Longyuan of Gansu Province, 20 famous teachers, excellent teachers and excellent experts of Gansu Province.

The school began to recruit graduate students in 1953. It is the first batch of bachelor's and master's degree awarding institutions in my country's universities and the second batch of doctoral degree awarding institutions. There are 17,137 ordinary undergraduate students, 2,993 master's students and 513 doctoral students. So far, it has trained more than 130,000 senior professionals of various types for the country, and a large number of well-known alumni have emerged, including Yang Ziheng, the first Chinese academician of the Royal Society of the United Kingdom, Shang Yongfeng and Chen Hualan, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Nan Zhibiao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

In the past five years, the university has undertaken 2,371 scientific research projects of various types, with a total funding of 614 million yuan. 122 scientific research results have won awards, including 77 provincial and ministerial awards, 876 authorized patents, 276 monographs and textbooks, and more than 9,600 papers have been published in domestic and foreign academic journals, including more than 1,500 papers included in SCI. At present, the university has undertaken more than 300 national projects such as the National Key R&D Program and the National Natural (Social) Science Foundation, and has achieved a number of major research results in grassland science, animal and plant breeding, dryland agriculture, facility agriculture, circular agriculture, water-saving agriculture, animal health breeding, biotechnology, and agricultural product processing.

The school attaches importance to international exchanges and cooperation and implements an international development strategy. It has maintained joint student training, academic exchanges and scientific research cooperation with more than 60 universities and research institutions in more than 20 countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Peru, Ghana, and Japan. It has established the "Sino-US Grassland Animal Husbandry Sustainable Development Research Center" in cooperation with the United States and other countries, and carried out a number of cooperative research with international institutions such as the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Asia-Pacific Center of the International Potato Center. It has set up programs such as the school-sent visiting scholar program, the student dual degree program in the United States, and the Gansu Agricultural University President Scholarship. The school's international exchanges are becoming more and more active, and its internationalization level is constantly improving.

In the 75 years of construction and development, the school has adhered to the school motto of "Dongren Lixue, Dezhi Yunneng", and formed a fine school spirit of "diligent, rigorous, realistic and innovative". Several generations of agricultural university people have carried forward the Gansu Agricultural University spirit of "self-improvement and hard work", and have achieved remarkable results in talent training, scientific research, social services and cultural inheritance and innovation, providing strong intellectual support and talent guarantee for the economic construction and social development of Gansu and the western region, and making important contributions to the development of higher agricultural education in my country.
