Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology is located in Baotou, one of the first national civilized cities and a beautiful grassland steel city. It was formerly the Baotou Iron and Steel Industry School and Baotou Construction Engineering School, which were founded in 1956. It was affiliated to the former Ministry of Metallurgical Industry. In 1958, the two schools merged to form Baotou Institute of Technology, which was renamed Baotou Iron and Steel Institute in 1960. Jinzhou Medical University was founded during the War of Liberation. The predecessor of the school was the Liaoji Military Region Health School established in Taonan City, Jilin Province in 1946. In 1946, it was reopened in Shanghai and renamed National Wusong Merchant Marine College. In 1950, it merged with the Department of Maritime Management of Jiaotong University to form Shanghai Maritime College. In 1953, the Central People's Government decided to merge Shanghai Maritime College with the Northeast Navigation College, which originated from the Northeast Merchant Marine School in 1927, to form Dalian Maritime College.
