Jilin University of Finance and Economics is a key university in Jilin Province and a school jointly built by the Jilin Provincial People's Government and the State Administration of Taxation.

The school started with the bank cadre training class held by the Northeast Bank Head Office in July 1946. It has gone through several historical periods such as the Northeast Bank Cadre School, the Northeast Bank Special School, the People's Bank of China Changchun Banking School, the Jilin Finance and Trade College, and the Jilin Finance and Trade School. In May 1978, the Jilin Finance and Trade College was restored, and in May 1992, it was renamed Changchun Taxation College, and in March 2010, it was renamed Jilin University of Finance and Economics. The school is a red financial education base founded by our party in the Northeast, the first financial college established in New China, one of the earliest general undergraduate financial colleges established in the country, and the first and only tax undergraduate university in the country.

In 2005, the school moved as a whole to the bank of Jingyuetan Lake, which is known as "the largest artificial forest in Asia". The campus covers an area of ​​1.08 million square meters. It has a collection of 1.66 million paper books, 1.27 million electronic books, 84 original foreign journals, and 63 Chinese and foreign databases. The natural, elegant, heavy and broad campus environment and spacious, bright, sunny and comfortable student apartments have created good conditions for the growth and development of students. In the 2021 university rankings of the Soft Science, it ranks 23rd in the ranking of financial universities; in the 2021 Jilin University Rankings of the Alumni Association, it ranks 9th.

There are experts and scholars such as the first female doctor of accounting and the first batch of doctors of finance who teach in 985 and 211 universities such as Peking University, Renmin University of China, Sun Yat-sen University, and Xiamen University. They inherit the bloodline and continue to cultivate more outstanding financial talents for the country. The school currently has nearly 14,000 undergraduates, postgraduates and foreign students. Students have won numerous awards in high-level subject competitions such as the National "Internet +" College Student Entrepreneurship Competition, the "Challenge Cup" National Competition, the National College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition, the E-commerce Design Competition, and the Management Decision Simulation Competition. The school was awarded the National College Student Cultural Quality Education Base and the "National Graduate Employment Typical Experience University" by the Ministry of Education. The school sponsors two academic journals, "Contemporary Economic Research" and "Taxation and Economy". Among them, "Contemporary Economic Research" is the journal of the China Capital Research Association, which is supervised by the Jilin Provincial Department of Education and sponsored by Jilin University of Finance and Economics. It is now a professional journal of Marxist political economics that is focused on by the Central Propaganda Department, a journal funded by the National Social Science Fund, a core journal of Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences Journal A, a source journal of the Chinese Social Science Citation Index (extended version), a national Chinese core journal, and an important source journal for the reprint of newspapers and periodicals of Renmin University of China. The school adheres to the concept of internationalization of education and has established inter-school cooperation with 52 universities in the United States, Britain, Australia, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Singapore, France, Belarus, Sweden and other countries and Taiwan, my country. Exchange activities such as mutual dispatch of scholars, scientific research cooperation and joint training of students are carried out every year. In 1988, the school began to recruit foreign students, and in 1999, it started Sino-foreign cooperative education. At present, it cooperates with Charles Sturt University in Australia to organize three undergraduate programs in accounting, finance and e-commerce. Since 2002, the school has selected outstanding undergraduate graduates to study for a master's degree at Teikyo University in Japan. Since 2011, it has launched a "2+2 dual degree" undergraduate and "2+1" graduate study abroad program with three Japanese universities including Hokkaido Bunkyo University. Since 2007, it has launched a "3+1" study abroad program with six Korean universities including Gyeonggi University. In 2013, under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, the school, as one of the 13 Chinese universities, jointly established the China-Russia Economic University Alliance with 13 Russian universities. The school is currently a qualified institution for the "Jilin Provincial Government Foreign Student Scholarship" and an implementing institution for the "Young Key Teachers Overseas Training Program" of the China Scholarship Council.
