Anhui University of Technology is located in Ma'anshan City, Anhui Province, a national civilized city adjacent to Nanjing in the Yangtze River Delta. Its predecessor was Ma'anshan Iron and Steel Industrial School founded in 1958. In 1977, it was approved by the State Council to establish Ma'anshan Iron and Steel Institute; in 1985, it was renamed East China Metallurgical Institute and was affiliated to the former Ministry of Metallurgical Industry; in 1998, it was transferred to Anhui Province and implemented the management system of "co-construction by the central and local governments, with Anhui Province as the main management"; in 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and the Anhui Provincial People's Government, East China Metallurgical Institute and Anhui Commercial College merged to form Anhui University of Technology.

Over the past 60 years since its establishment, the school has carried forward the fine tradition of "high standards and strict requirements", inherited the fine school spirit of "unity, truth-seeking, diligence and innovation", forged the school motto of "fine workmanship, erudition, virtue and agility", and accumulated the university culture of "serving the country with sincerity, serving the people, pursuing truth, advocating science and technology, selfless dedication, and striving for first-class", and embarked on a characteristic development path of "focusing on engineering, serving the industry, integrating into the local area, and innovative development". It has now become a multidisciplinary university with engineering as the main subject, coordinated development of seven major disciplines of engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, and art, and distinctive industry characteristics. It is a university supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Anhui Provincial Government, a university implementing the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education, and a university building with local characteristics and high-level universities in Anhui Province.

The school covers an area of ​​2,548.72 acres, with two campuses in Jiashan and Xiushan, a school building area of ​​914,200 square meters, a total value of 573 million yuan in teaching and scientific research equipment, 1.9461 million paper documents in the collection, and 134 available database resources. There are 2,139 faculty members, including 238 senior professional titles, 508 associate senior professional titles, and 759 teachers with doctoral degrees (accounting for 57.1% of the total number of full-time teachers). There are 24,152 full-time undergraduates, 4,044 postgraduates, 375 international students, 419 Baosteel and Zhongtian students, and 10,215 students in various continuing education programs. There are 17 teaching colleges and departments, 63 undergraduate majors, 19 first-level discipline master's programs, 15 professional degree categories, 22 fields, 2 first-level discipline doctoral programs, and 2 postdoctoral research mobile stations. There are 6 national first-class undergraduate courses, 35 national and provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 6 national characteristic majors and comprehensive reform pilot majors, and 47 provincial characteristic (brand), comprehensive reform pilot, and revitalization plan majors. 13 majors have passed the engineering education professional certification (assessment) of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, ranking first among provincial universities.

The school is now one of the first national demonstration universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform and one of the top 50 universities with typical experience in innovation and entrepreneurship. The "three-step method" innovates the way of talent training and won the second prize of national teaching achievements. Since the "13th Five-Year Plan", college students have won 96 international awards, 1,447 national awards, and 3,615 provincial awards in various subject competitions. They have won 22 national first prizes in Class A competitions such as the China College Students' Engineering Practice and Innovation Ability Competition, and won the first national special prize and the first national "Champion Cup" in the provincial colleges and universities. The Robot World Cup China Championship "four consecutive championships" have been achieved, and 3 projects have been selected as reform achievement projects of the National College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Annual Conference. The Golden Eagle Innovation and Entrepreneurship Team was selected as the first batch of "Xiaoping Science and Technology Innovation Team" for college students in the country, and 1 innovation and entrepreneurship model won the "Chinese College Student of the Year". Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the overall employment rate of graduates has reached 93%, and the employment units are mainly concentrated in the Yangtze River Delta region such as Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Anhui. The graduates' destinations show the characteristics of "based in Anhui, facing the Yangtze River Delta, and radiating across the country". The satisfaction of employers in the political performance, business ability, innovation ability, adaptability, and comprehensive quality of our graduates has reached more than 96%.

Three disciplines of materials science, engineering, and chemistry are in the top 1% of the global ESI rankings. Among them, materials science and engineering are in the top 0.5% in the world, and materials science and engineering, metallurgical engineering, and chemistry are selected as peak disciplines in Anhui Province. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, it has led the formulation of 6 international standards, approved the establishment of ISO-TC107/SC9PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition Coating) International Standard Subcommittee, added 333 national scientific research projects, won 76 provincial and ministerial scientific and technological achievements awards, authorized 1,172 invention patents, and transferred and transformed 279 patent results. From 2019 to 2022, it ranked first among provincial universities in the top 100 invention patents in Anhui Province for three consecutive years. There are 26 scientific research platforms at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, and the "Intelligent Equipment Manufacturing for Special Service Environments" platform has been approved as an international scientific and technological cooperation base by the Ministry of Science and Technology. Ten scholars from the school were selected in the list of the top 2% of scientists in the world released by Stanford University in the United States. In the "2021 Academic Ranking of World Universities", the school was shortlisted in the top 1,000 in the world. In the past three years, in the annual list of "Highly Cited Scientists" released by Clarivate Analytics, 6 people from 3 disciplines of the school were selected, ranking first among provincial universities. Actively serving the country's major strategies and the construction of "three places and one district" in Anhui Province, we have established a government-university-research cooperation alliance with many local governments inside and outside the province, jointly built 7 physical research institutes, signed strategic cooperation agreements with more than 200 enterprises and institutions such as Baowu Group, and jointly built a technology innovation institute with Wuhu City, and cooperated with Ma'anshan City to jointly build an industrial college, an entrepreneur college and Ma'anshan National University Science and Technology Park. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, one of the think tank's achievements has been approved by the central leadership and adopted by the central decision-making departments, 6 have been adopted by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Anhui Province, 19 have been approved by provincial and municipal leaders, and 40 articles have been published in the central "three newspapers and one journal" and provincial core newspapers and journals. The school was selected as one of the first 47 colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education for the transformation and technology transfer of scientific and technological achievements, and was approved to establish the first national intellectual property information service center in Anhui Province. The school-run high-tech enterprise Anhui Huaqi Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. was successfully listed, and it is the first school-run enterprise to be listed in provincial universities.

It has established cooperative relations with nearly 100 foreign universities, undertaken a number of international scientific research cooperation projects, and actively participated in the "Belt and Road" talent training work. The scale of academic students ranks second among provincial universities. The school joined the "China-ASEAN Education Exchange Week 'Belt and Road' Talent Training School-Enterprise Alliance" and obtained the qualification of the Chinese Proficiency Test College of the China-Foreign Language Exchange Cooperation Center. Deepen cooperation with universities in the Yangtze River Delta, join the "Yangtze River Delta Higher Engineering Education Alliance", and jointly initiate the establishment of the "Yangtze River Delta Higher Engineering Education University Science and Technology Park Alliance" and the "Yangtze River Delta High-level Industry Characteristic University Alliance". We continue to promote the organization of alumni associations and subject alumni associations inside and outside the province, and the school's education development foundation has been rated as a 5A foundation in the social organization assessment of the Anhui Provincial Department of Civil Affairs.

In recent years, the school has conscientiously implemented the general requirements of party building in the new era and effectively strengthened party building and ideological and political work.
