Chaohu College is located in Chaohu Economic Development Zone, Hefei City, adjacent to Chaohu Lake, one of the five famous freshwater lakes. This is the first national tourist resort in Anhui Province, Bantang Hot Spring Health Resort, which is known as "a place of auspicious dragons and phoenixes, and a place of nine blessings".

The school is a full-time public undergraduate college in Anhui Province. Founded in 1977, it was formerly Chaohu Normal College. In April 2002, it was upgraded to an undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education and renamed Chaohu College. In June 2006, it was approved to confer bachelor's degrees. In June 2013, it successfully passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education.
