Wannan Medical College

Wannan Medical College is located in Wuhu, a historic city known as the "giant port of the Yangtze River and the backbone of Anhui Province". It is close to the vast Yangtze River and gathers the beauty of the south of the Yangtze River. The school was founded in 1958 as Wuhu Medical College; in 1971, it was merged into Anhui Medical College and became the Wannan Branch of Anhui Medical College; in 1974, it was approved by the State Council to establish an independent school and was named Wannan Medical College; in 1981, the school obtained the right to confer bachelor's and master's degrees from the State Council Academic Degrees Committee; in 1998, it passed the undergraduate teaching work qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education at one time; in 2008, it successfully passed the undergraduate teaching work level evaluation of the Ministry of Education and won the excellent grade; in 2018, it successfully passed the undergraduate teaching work review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In 2019, the school became a doctoral degree authorization project construction unit in Anhui Province. In 2020, the clinical medicine professional certification was passed, which is valid for six years.

The school currently has three campuses: Yinhu Campus, Binjiang Campus, and Zhelu Campus, covering an area of ​​more than 700 acres and more than 400,000 square meters of various buildings. Among them, the new campus is adjacent to the Yangtze River, surrounded by green water, with complete facilities and beautiful environment. The Hui style of architecture and the modern atmosphere complement each other. It is also the main campus of our school. The school has 16 secondary colleges including the School of Clinical Medicine, School of Anesthesiology, School of Medical Imaging, School of Forensic Medicine, School of Stomatology, School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy, School of Humanities and Management, School of Public Health, School of Inspection, School of Medical Information, School of Public Basics (School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship), School of Basic Medicine, School of Marxism, School of Graduate Studies, and School of Continuing Education.

The school has initially formed a multi-level school-running pattern with medicine as the main focus, coordinated development of multiple disciplines, reasonable layout, and distinctive characteristics. The school's clinical medicine discipline has entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking and has been selected as a peak discipline in Anhui Province. There are 28 undergraduate majors, covering 6 disciplines: medicine, science, engineering, management, economics, and law. Among them, there are 2 national first-class majors, 8 provincial first-class majors, 1 national characteristic major, 9 provincial characteristic majors, 1 national comprehensive reform pilot major, and 11 provincial comprehensive reform pilot majors. The school is the first batch of pilot universities in the country for the reform of the training model of clinical medicine master's professional degree graduate students. It has 5 first-level master's degree authorization points, including clinical medicine, basic medicine, biology, pharmacy, public health and preventive medicine, and 6 master's professional degree categories, including clinical medicine, oral medicine, pharmacy, public health, nursing and applied psychology. There is 1 national clinical key specialty, 2 provincial key disciplines, 1 key discipline of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 20 provincial key specialties and key cultivation specialties, and 3 specialties have been selected into the top 100 specialties of scientific and technological value of Chinese hospitals. There are more than 25,000 students of various types, including 16,969 undergraduates, 1,421 postgraduates, and 6,355 adult education students.

The school currently has 5,269 teaching and medical staff (including directly affiliated hospitals), 1,091 full-time teachers, 718 senior professional titles, and has built a well-structured and high-quality teaching staff. In recent years, 7 teachers have been awarded the honorary titles of national and provincial outstanding teachers, 14 teachers have been awarded the honorary title of provincial teaching masters, 12 people enjoy special allowances from the State Council, 15 people enjoy special allowances from the provincial government, 6 provincial academic and technical leaders, and 11 reserve candidates. One teacher's family won the first "National Civilized Family", and two teacher families won the "Most Beautiful Family in China in 2020". In the long history of running the school, the school has a group of well-known professors who are tireless in teaching, including Professor Liu Yide, who founded the first neurological ward in my country and wrote the first monograph on neuropsychiatry; Professor Sun Ruiyuan, one of the founders of quantitative pharmacology in my country; Professor Shang Zhijun, who has devoted himself to the study of herbal medicine for 60 years and compiled the classic masterpiece "Newly Revised Tang Materia Medica"; Professor Li Jiren, a national master of medicine and one of the seven tutors of Neijing in the country; Professor Wang Tong, who is both morally and technically excellent and the first person to donate his body in our school, and a large number of outstanding teachers, model workers, subject leaders and backbone teachers who love their jobs and are dedicated to their work. It is the inheritance and selfless dedication of generations of Anhui medical people that laid the foundation for the school's cause and became the school's most valuable educational resource.

The school pays attention to the construction of teaching and research teams and platforms. It currently has 1 national virtual simulation experiment teaching project, 15 provincial virtual simulation experiment teaching projects, 1 provincial talent training model innovation experimental zone, 16 provincial teaching teams, and 2 curriculum ideological and political teaching teams. There are 7 provincial outstanding talent education and training plans, 6 provincial "six excellence, one top" outstanding talent training innovation projects, 41 provincial quality courses, 25 provincial first-class courses, 12 provincial smart classrooms (including pilot projects), and 7 provincial demonstration experimental training centers; there are 10 provincial scientific research platforms: Anhui Polysaccharide Drug Engineering Technology Research Center, Anhui Key Laboratory for Active Biomacromolecule Research, Anhui Key Laboratory for College Students' Mental Health Education Research Center, Anhui Provincial Key Research Base for Humanities and Social Sciences, Anhui Provincial Key Laboratory for Non-coding RNA Translation Research on Major Diseases, Anhui Provincial Plant Drug Activity Screening and Re-evaluation Engineering Laboratory in Southern Anhui, Anhui Branch of the National Clinical Medicine Research Center for Geriatric Diseases, Anhui Provincial Critical Care (Respiratory Disease) Clinical Medicine Research Center, Level 3 Laboratory of Chinese Medicine Pharmacology, Anhui Provincial Drug Clinical Evaluation Center, and National Drug Clinical Trial Institution. The university has published two academic journals, Journal of Wannan Medical College and Chinese Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. The library has a collection of 986,000 paper books, 4.3 million electronic books, and 1,116 Chinese and foreign newspapers and periodicals.

The university attaches great importance to foreign exchanges and cooperation, adheres to the strategy of open education, and has established inter-school contacts and cooperation with more than 10 colleges and universities in countries and regions such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, and has signed cooperation agreements with 8 universities. In recent years, the university has organized and selected more than 200 faculty and medical staff to participate in academic exchanges, further studies, visiting studies, and training abroad; and has carried out practical teaching, scientific research and other aspects of cooperation with units and scientific research institutes such as the University of Pennsylvania, the Eastern Theater Command General Hospital of the Army, Anhui Provincial Hospital, and Xiansheng Pharmaceutical Group. In 2020, the university signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Wuhu City to jointly build a high-level university.

The university currently has 2 directly affiliated hospitals, 8 non-directly affiliated hospitals, and 20 teaching hospitals. The First Affiliated Hospital (Yijishan Hospital) was founded in 1888 by the American Christian Church. It is the first Western medicine hospital in Anhui Province and one of the first Class III Class A hospitals in the country. It is the center of medical treatment, prevention, rehabilitation and emergency treatment in southern Anhui and the Wanjiang region. The hospital founded the "Wuhu Hospital Nursing School" in 1926 and changed its name to "Wuhu Hospital Huairang Senior Nursing Vocational School" in 1936. It once enjoyed a high reputation in China and was known as "North Union Hospital, South Huairang". The Second Affiliated Hospital was built in 1949. It was originally the People's Hospital of Xuancheng District. In 2012, it was approved by the provincial government and was transferred to our school as a whole. It is a public Class III Class A comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention, health care and rehabilitation. It has a number of key specialties and specialty specialties with high reputation.

The school has always adhered to the status of talent training center, deepened the reform of the "three-in-one" talent training model of practical education, social responsibility education and innovation and entrepreneurship education, and promoted the continuous improvement of talent training quality. Graduates are highly praised by employers and all walks of life. The employment rate of graduates has always remained above 96%, ranking among the top universities in the province, and has won the title of advanced unit for employment work in the province many times. Since its establishment, the school has provided nearly 70,000 medical and health talents for the country, and has made positive contributions to the development of medical and health undertakings in our province and even the whole country.
