Anhui Mechanical and Electrical Vocational and Technical College is a public full-time higher vocational college directly under the management of the Anhui Provincial Department of Education. The school was founded in 1935 as the Anhui Private Neisi Industrial Vocational School. It has gone through Wuhu Electric Power School, Wuhu Motor Manufacturing School, Wuhu Motor Manufacturing College, etc., and was placed under the leadership of the First Ministry of Machinery Industry of the State. In 1972, it was changed to the leadership of the Anhui Provincial Machinery Department and renamed Anhui Wuhu Machinery School. In 1978, with the approval of the State Council, Anhui Mechanical and Electrical College was established on the basis of Anhui Wuhu Machinery School, and is now renamed Anhui University of Technology. In 1986, Anhui Mechanical and Electrical College moved out, and the Anhui Provincial People's Government decided to restore Anhui Wuhu Machinery School at the original site, under the leadership of the Provincial Machinery Department. In 2003, with the approval of the Anhui Provincial People's Government, Anhui Wuhu Mechanical School was independently upgraded to Anhui Mechanical and Electrical Vocational and Technical College. So far, it has a history of 87 years.

In 2019, the school was selected as a construction unit of the "China's Characteristic High-level Vocational School and Professional Construction Plan" on the basis of the construction of national backbone vocational colleges and national high-quality vocational colleges. The school's industrial robot technology professional group was jointly included in the high-level professional group (A-level) construction list by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance. In 2021, in order to accelerate the establishment of vocational undergraduate schools, with the strong support of the Anhui Provincial Department of Education and the Wuhu Municipal People's Government, the school and the Fanchang District People's Government of Wuhu City officially signed a contract to build the Fanchang Campus of Anhui Mechanical and Electrical Vocational and Technical College in Fanchang District, Wuhu City. The new campus covers an area of ​​1,049 acres and is expected to complete the first phase of construction and put into use in 2024.
