Northern University for Nationalities is directly under the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and is a comprehensive general college. The school is located in Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the "South of the Great Wall". It is the only central government-affiliated university in my country established in eight ethnic provinces and regions. The school was formerly known as the Northwest Second Nationalities College, which was founded in 1984 and renamed Northern University for Nationalities in 2008. The school is a doctoral, master's and bachelor's degree-granting institution.

Talent training: The school adheres to the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity, educating people for the party and cultivating talents for the country. It recruits students from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across the country. There are more than 22,000 doctoral students, master students, and undergraduate (preparatory) students from 55 ethnic groups, which is a microcosm of the Chinese nation. More than 60,000 graduates have taken root in the border areas and ethnic areas of the motherland, becoming practitioners of the construction of the Chinese nation community, builders of economic and social development in ethnic areas, promoters of excellent Chinese traditional culture, and defenders of national unity and border stability.

Disciplines and majors: The school is rooted in Ningxia, based in the northwest, and facing the whole country. There are 77 undergraduate majors in 10 disciplines including literature, science, engineering, law, history, management, economics, art, education, and medicine. There are 2 first-level doctoral degree authorization points in ethnology and mathematics, 13 first-level master's degree authorization points in materials science and engineering, and 13 professional master's degree authorization points in electronic information. There are 3 provincial and ministerial first-class disciplines such as mathematics, and 10 provincial and ministerial key disciplines such as chemical engineering and technology. There are 4 national characteristic majors such as materials science and engineering, 4 national first-class undergraduate major construction points such as chemical engineering and technology, 9 provincial and ministerial advantage and characteristic majors such as Chinese language and literature, 7 provincial and ministerial "13th Five-Year Plan" key majors (groups) such as automation, and 5 provincial and ministerial demonstration majors for talent training in the integration of industry and education such as mechanical and electronic engineering. There are 1 national material science experimental teaching demonstration center and 8 provincial and ministerial experimental teaching demonstration centers such as chemical technology foundation.

Faculty: The school adheres to the principle of the party managing talents, and promotes both introduction and training, and strives to build a high-quality talent team with firm political convictions, good teacher ethics, and strong professional skills. There are nearly 1,500 faculty members, nearly 1,100 full-time teachers, nearly 50% of teachers with senior professional and technical titles, and 47% of doctors; 2 academicians have been appointed; the image processing and intelligent computer teaching team has been approved as the Huang Danian-style teaching team of national universities, 4 teams have been selected into the National Ethnic Affairs Commission Innovation Team Support Plan, 7 teams have been selected into the autonomous region's science and technology innovation team, and 2 teams have been selected into the autonomous region's college Huang Danian-style teaching team.

Scientific research: The school adheres to the concept of "scientific research pursues originality, scientific research promotes teaching, scientific research serves the local area, and scientific research improves the school", and mainly conducts scientific research on the economic and social development of ethnic minority areas, writes papers on the land, and uses the results in practice. It has formed certain characteristics and advantages in the construction and research of the Chinese nation community, research on powder materials and special ceramics, recycling of industrial waste, grape planting and winemaking technology, ethnology, border prosperity and rural revitalization. Won 1 major contribution award for science and technology in the autonomous region in 2020. There is 1 national-local joint engineering research center, 1 demonstration national international science and technology cooperation base; 8 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, 5 provincial and ministerial humanities and social science research bases; 1 provincial and ministerial technology innovation center, 1 engineering technology center, 1 industrial design center; 13 provincial and ministerial innovation teams; 1 national "National Chemical and Mechanical Basic Science Popularization Base", 1 provincial and ministerial "Electronic Science and Physics Demonstration Center" science popularization base.

Cooperation and Exchange: The school adheres to open education and actively carries out domestic and foreign cooperation and exchanges. Hefei University of Technology is a counterpart support university designated by the Ministry of Education. The school has carried out in-depth school-to-school, school-to-local, and school-enterprise cooperation with Peking University, Yinchuan Municipal People's Government, Ningxia Sharing Group, etc., to promote mutual promotion and win-win results. The school actively participates in the "Belt and Road" initiative, joins the "Silk Road University Alliance", and has 3 Ministry of Education country and regional research centers. Innovation and Entrepreneurship: The school has steadily promoted the deep integration of education and teaching with innovation and entrepreneurship, actively carried out "double innovation" education, and implemented the "specialization and innovation integration '5+3' education to create a 'six ones' innovative talent training system". The innovative and entrepreneurial talent training model won the special prize of the autonomous region's teaching achievements.
