Ningxia University

Ningxia University is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, a national "first-class discipline" construction university, and a national "211 Project" key construction university.

Ningxia University was founded in 1958. In December 1997, Ningxia University merged with the former Ningxia Institute of Technology and Yinchuan Teachers College (including Ningxia Education College); in February 2002, it merged with Ningxia Agricultural College to form the new Ningxia University, opening a new chapter in the school's reform and development.

The school is located in Yinchuan, a historical and cultural city with a long history and beautiful scenery. It covers an area of ​​2,938 acres, a teaching and experimental farm of 1,890 acres, and a school building area of ​​870,000 square meters. There are 2,690 faculty and staff on campus. It recruits students from 28 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government. It currently has 19,296 full-time undergraduates, 6,355 postgraduates, 997 minority preparatory students and 179 international students. The campus is full of buildings, lush flowers and trees, and elegant environment, making it an ideal place for studying and studying.

In the course of more than 60 years of running schools, the school has adhered to the school motto of "morality, diligence, truth-seeking and innovation", and carried forward the "Saxaul spirit" of "not afraid of difficulties, not afraid of wind and cold; deep roots and luxuriant leaves, solid roots and flourishing branches", worked hard to start a business, worked hard, dared to innovate, and pioneered. Especially in recent years, the school has seized the historic opportunities of provincial and ministerial co-construction, the comprehensive strength improvement project of colleges and universities in central and western China, the "double first-class" construction, and the "co-construction of the ministry and the region", adhered to the road of characteristic development, focused on improving the quality of school running, and continuously promoted the connotation development. It has now become a comprehensive university with coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as science, engineering, agriculture, economics, management, literature, law, and art.

The 7th Party Congress of Ningxia University determined the development goal of "building Ningxia University into a first-class university in the west with distinct regional characteristics and outstanding service capabilities by 2025", clarified the two main lines of work, namely "the main line of moral education with 'three-dimensional education' as the core" and "the main line of 'co-construction of the ministry and the region' with 'double first-class' construction as the core", formulated seven key tasks, and strived to start a new journey of building a first-class university in the west.

The university currently has one world-class construction discipline, "Chemical Engineering and Technology", two "co-construction of the ministry and the region" advantage and characteristic discipline groups, "Chemical Engineering and Technology Discipline Group" and "Ethnology Discipline Group", one national key discipline, "Grassland Science", and one national key (cultivation) discipline, "History of Chinese Ethnic Minorities". 18 autonomous region key disciplines, 8 "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" autonomous region advantage and characteristic disciplines, 8 "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" autonomous region key disciplines, and 16 autonomous region first-class construction disciplines. 7 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 31 first-level discipline master's programs, 16 professional master's degree authorization points, and 3 postdoctoral research mobile stations.

The school has always adhered to the fundamental principle of "establishing morality and cultivating people" and continuously improved the quality of talent training. Strengthen the central position of talent cultivation, cultivate high-quality talents in accordance with the goal of "sound personality, solid foundation, social adaptability and development potential", determine the teaching reform ideas of "strengthening foundation, strengthening practice, developing expertise, focusing on innovation, and diversion training", and implement it by building two programs (professional training program, personality training program), improving two systems ("four-in-one" classroom teaching quality evaluation system and teaching quality monitoring system), and creating five platforms (general education platform, teacher education platform, curriculum construction platform, student practical ability training platform, student innovation ability training platform). There are 80 undergraduate majors, 20 of which have been selected as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites. There is 1 national off-campus practice education base for college students, 1 national ideological and political demonstration course, 1 national quality course, 1 national quality resource sharing course, 4 national first-class undergraduate courses, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 national language and writing base, 3 national teaching teams, 8 national advantageous and characteristic majors, 1 national bilingual teaching demonstration course construction project, 326 national college student innovation and entrepreneurship training program projects, and 9 first and second prizes of national teaching achievement awards.

The school's scientific research work closely revolves around major national and regional strategic needs, takes innovation-driven development as the driving force, activates innovation elements through institutional and mechanism innovation, focuses on basic research, strengthens applied research, and promotes the transformation of results. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the school has undertaken more than 1,200 scientific research projects at the provincial and ministerial levels and above, with a total scientific research fund of 911 million yuan, an average annual growth rate of 10.89%, an increase of 444 million yuan compared with the 12th Five-Year Plan (467 million yuan); it has won 344 scientific research awards of various types, including 1 second prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 29 autonomous region science and technology progress awards (including 1 first prize and 10 second prizes), 189 outstanding academic papers in natural sciences, 2 second prizes in the Ministry of Education's Philosophy and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award, 2 items selected into the National Philosophy and Social Sciences Achievement Library, 2 Ningxia Social Science Outstanding Contribution Awards, and 119 Ningxia Social Science Outstanding Achievement Awards. The school actively connects with local characteristic and advantageous industries, takes the innovation of school-enterprise cooperation model as a way, and takes the innovation of social system and mechanism as a driving force. It has established comprehensive cooperative relations with 5 cities and more than 120 enterprises and institutions in the autonomous region, and has sent more than 100 science and technology poverty alleviation instructors, expert service teams, "three regions" science and technology talents and post scientists, and established "grass and livestock industry technology innovation alliances" and other industry-university-research innovation alliances. Relying on major scientific and technological projects, a number of technologies and equipment have been promoted and applied one after another. The school currently has 43 provincial and ministerial-level and above scientific and technological innovation platforms (bases) such as the Provincial and Ministerial Co-construction Key Laboratory of Coal Efficient Utilization and Green Chemical Industry, the Provincial and Ministerial Co-construction National Key Laboratory Cultivation Base for Land Degradation and Ecological Restoration in Northwest China, the Provincial and Ministerial Co-construction Collaborative Innovation Center for Arab National Research, and the Provincial and Ministerial Co-construction Collaborative Innovation Center for Big Data and Artificial Intelligence in Ningxia, as well as more than 100 professional laboratories in various disciplines. The construction of the National University Science and Technology Park has been approved.

The school insists on taking the path of open education. Focusing on the goal requirements of "double first-class" construction and "co-construction between the ministry and the region", we have intensified in-depth cooperation with domestic partner institutions, focusing on first-class disciplines and carrying out counterpart construction with five brother universities, including Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xiamen University, Tianjin University, East China University of Science and Technology, and Shaanxi Normal University, in terms of talent training, discipline construction, scientific research, local service, international cooperation and exchanges. We have continuously consolidated our partnership with more than 10 domestic universities, including Shandong University, Northwest A&F University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Nanchang University, Jilin University, Fuzhou University, Zhejiang University, Lanzhou University, Hunan Normal University, and Harbin Institute of Technology. Based on regional characteristics and advantageous disciplines, we have established substantive partnerships with 31 universities (research institutes) in 15 countries and regions. We have established the first Confucius Institute in the Gulf region in cooperation with the University of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The school is one of the first universities approved by the Ministry of Education to receive foreign students, a Chinese government scholarship recipient, a Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region local government scholarship recipient, and the only HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) test site in Ningxia. Since the enrollment of international students in 1992, more than 4,000 international students from more than 40 countries have come to study at the university.
