Heilongjiang Bayi Agricultural University (HBAU) [1] is a full-time general university in Heilongjiang Province. It has a complete education system for training bachelor's, master's and doctoral students. It is one of the first batch of pilot universities for the reform of the national excellent agricultural and forestry talent education and training program, and a university with typical experience in graduate employment in 2015 [2].

Heilongjiang Bayi Agricultural University is a full-time general university in Heilongjiang Province. It was founded in July 1958. The first president was General Wang Zhen, former Vice President of the State and then Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Reclamation. The university was originally under the Ministry of Agriculture and Reclamation, and was transferred to the People's Government of Heilongjiang Province in 1973. After 64 years of development and construction, it has become an agricultural university with distinctive modern agricultural characteristics, agriculture-oriented, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines.

The school was born in the historical tide of 100,000 demobilized soldiers developing and building the Great Northern Wilderness. The original school site was located in the mountainous countryside north of Peide Town, Mishan City. In the 45 years of running schools in frontier rural areas, the teachers and students of the school carried forward the fine traditions of the People's Liberation Army and the "anti-college school spirit", inherited the spirit of the Great Northern Wilderness, and embarked on a path of self-improvement and hard work. In 2003, the school moved to Daqing City as a whole and entered a new era of accelerated upgrading and leapfrog development. In the long-term practice of running schools, the school has condensed and formed the school spirit of "hard work, selfless dedication, pragmatism and truth-seeking, and carrying heavy burdens for a long time", and has won wide acclaim from the society for its excellent school spirit and school performance.

The school is located in the Daqing High-tech Industrial Development Zone, covering a total area of ​​1.2004 million square meters, with a building area of ​​407,000 square meters, a total fixed asset value of 1.345 billion yuan, teaching and research equipment of 336 million yuan, and 2.1121 million books. The school currently has 1,435 faculty members, including 927 full-time teachers, 191 professors, and 292 associate professors. Among them, 375 teachers have doctoral degrees, accounting for 40.5%; 129 teachers have more than one year of overseas experience, accounting for 13.9%. The school has 12 undergraduate colleges and teaching institutions such as the School of Marxism, the Department of Physical Education and Research, and the School of Continuing Education. The disciplines and majors involve 7 disciplines, including agronomy, engineering, management, science, law, literature, and economics. The school has 3 postdoctoral research mobile stations and 1 postdoctoral research workstation. It has 4 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 11 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, and 7 master's professional degree authorization categories; it has 53 undergraduate majors, including 3 national characteristic majors, 9 provincial key majors, 5 national first-class majors, and 19 provincial first-class majors. The school recruits students from 24 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions), with more than 16,000 full-time undergraduates and nearly 2,000 graduate students of various types. Since its establishment, the school has trained and sent more than 130,000 graduates and trained more than 500,000 personnel of various types.

The school has focused on promoting teaching reform and continuously improving the quality of talent training. At present, the university has been approved to carry out 1 national comprehensive reform pilot project for majors, 2 national reform pilot projects for excellent agricultural and forestry talents education and training program (covering 7 majors), 1 national new engineering research and practice project, 4 national new agricultural research and reform practice projects, 3 provincial comprehensive reform pilot projects for majors, 5 provincial reform pilot projects for excellent agricultural talents education and training program, 2 provincial new engineering research and practice projects, 2 provincial new agricultural research and reform practice projects, and 3 provincial new liberal arts research and reform practice projects; 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 national off-campus practical education base, 5 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching demonstration center, and 3 provincial off-campus practical education bases; 1 national first-class course, 23 provincial first-class courses, 3 provincial online and offline quality courses, and 6 provincial ideological and political demonstration courses. 242 national college student innovation and entrepreneurship training projects and 571 provincial projects have been approved. In 2019, it was approved as a characteristic application-oriented undergraduate demonstration school in Heilongjiang Province; in 2020, it was approved as a demonstration school for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform in Heilongjiang Province and a demonstration university for ideological and political construction in Heilongjiang Province. The employment rate of graduates has always remained at the forefront of provincial universities, and in 2015 it was rated as one of the "Top 50 National University Graduate Employment Work".

The school's scientific research work focuses on applied research and technology development. It has established 27 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms, including the National Cereals Engineering Technology Research Center, the New Rural Development Research Institute, the Ministry of Education's Grain By-product Processing and Utilization Engineering Technology Research Center, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Agricultural Products and Processed Products Quality Supervision Inspection and Testing Center (Daqing), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs' Key Laboratory of Green and Low-carbon Agriculture in the Northeast Plain, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs' Key Laboratory of Soybean Mechanized Production, as well as 7 provincial university key laboratories and engineering technology research and development centers. The university cooperated with the reclamation area and local governments to build eight scientific and technological innovation bases for the integration of school-reclamation and local development, including the "Jiansanjiang Rice Industry Innovation Institute", "Jiusan Soybean Industry Innovation Institute", "Daqing Facility Agriculture Institute", "Mudanjiang Food and Biotechnology Innovation Institute", "Old Campus Research Institute", "Daqing National Agricultural Science and Technology Park", "Anda Agricultural Science and Technology Park", and "University Science and Technology Park". Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the university has undertaken a total of 361 national, provincial and ministerial projects, and the scientific research funds of departments at all levels have totaled 347 million yuan. Since its establishment, the school has achieved more than 1,750 scientific research results, won 7 national science and technology progress awards, and 180 provincial and ministerial awards. A number of major scientific research results represented by "three-ridge cultivation technology of soybeans", "crop seed coating agent", "key technology for safety control of soybean and rice production and processing", "research and application of key technologies for prevention and control of important cattle diseases", "'Lion White Goose' breeding and 'Jade Goose' ecological breeding model", "Heilongjiang rice large-scale balanced high-yield and high-quality cultivation comprehensive supporting technology", "modern agricultural machinery key technology and equipment" have been effectively transformed in production practice, creating huge economic and social benefits. It has won the "Heilongjiang Provincial Governor's Special Award" three times, the "Heilongjiang Provincial Colleges and Scientific Research Units Economic Revitalization Award" twice, and the first prize of Heilongjiang Provincial Science and Technology Award 10 times.

The school adheres to open education and conducts exchanges and cooperation with nearly 30 universities and research institutes in countries and regions such as the United States, Britain, Canada, Russia, France, South Korea, Japan, India, Ukraine, Poland, and Malaysia. At present, the school implements the Sino-foreign cooperative education project for undergraduates with Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service in Russia, and implements exchange student and international student programs with Gangneung Wonju National University, Jeju University in South Korea, Yamagata University in Japan, Poznan University of Life Sciences in Poland, Kharkiv National University of Radioelectronics in Ukraine, Kharkiv National University of Urban Planning, Universiti Putra Malaysia and other foreign universities, implements the "China-Canada Cooperation Food Research and Development Center" project with the University of Alberta in Canada, and implements the China-India Cereal Engineering Technology Research Center project with UAS University in India.

The school always regards the Beidahuang spirit as the most precious spiritual wealth, and consciously integrates the Beidahuang spirit into the whole process of running schools and educating people. The school currently has the Beidahuang Spirit Academic Exchange Base in Heilongjiang Province, the Social Practice Training Base for Teachers of Ideological and Political Theory Courses in Heilongjiang Schools, the Beidahuang Spirit and Culture Research Institute, and the Beidahuang Spirit Exhibition Hall.
