Anhui Normal University

‍Anhui Normal University is the earliest higher education institution in Anhui. It is located in Wuhu, a national open city with the reputation of "Huifeng Wanyun, the city of a thousand lakes". It is close to the vast Yangtze River and the beautiful Zheshan Mountain. It combines the natural beauty of Jiangnan and the humanities of Anhui. It is a university jointly built by the Anhui Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education, a provincial key comprehensive university prioritized by the Anhui Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, and a key university for the construction of characteristic high-level universities in Anhui Province. It was selected as a national key Marxist college (the only one in Anhui Province), and a pilot unit of the School of Journalism jointly built by the Provincial Party Committee Propaganda Department and the school (the only one in Anhui Province). It won the title of the second "National Civilized Campus".

The predecessor of the school was the Provincial Anhui University founded in Anqing in 1928. It was renamed National Anhui University in 1946 and moved to Wuhu in December 1949. Later, it went through several stages of operation, including Anhui Normal College, Hefei Normal College, Wannan University (Liu Shaoqi wrote the name of the school), and Anhui University of Workers and Peasants. In 1972, with the approval of the State Council, it was officially named Anhui Normal University (Guo Moruo wrote the name of the school). In 2005, Wuhu Normal College was merged into Anhui Normal University as a whole.

In the course of more than 90 years of school operation, a large number of well-known experts, scholars, and social elites, such as Liu Wendian, Zhou Jianren, Yu Dafu, Su Xuelin, Chen Wangdao, Zhu Xiang, Zhu Guangqian, Wang Xinggong, Yang Lianggong, Cheng Yansheng, Tao Yin, Zhang Weici, Ding Xuxian, Xiang Nan, and Xu Jie, have gathered on the banks of Linghu Lake and Jinghu Lake, writing books and promoting literature and education. Through generations of teachers and students' dedicated efforts, inspiring practice, cultivating students, passing on the torch, and teaching by example, the spirit of "thick and simple, striving for excellence, pursuing excellence, and constantly striving for self-improvement" has been honed, the teaching style of "rigorous scholarship, dedication, teaching and educating people, and being a role model" has been accumulated, the style of study of "diligent learning, careful thinking, simplicity and humility, unity of knowledge and practice, and seeking truth and innovation" has been cultivated, and the school motto of "virtue, emphasis on education, erudition, and practice" has been condensed. Since its establishment, the school has trained nearly 300,000 full-time higher-level professionals for the country.

The university currently has 18 colleges, including the College of Arts, the College of Marxism, the College of Law, the College of Economics and Management, the College of Music, the College of Fine Arts, the College of History, the College of Educational Sciences, the College of Foreign Languages, the College of Physical Education, the College of Journalism and Communication, the College of Mathematics and Statistics, the College of Computer and Information, the College of Physics and Electronic Information, the College of Chemistry and Materials Science, the College of Geography and Tourism, the College of Life Sciences, the College of Ecology and Environment, as well as the College of Continuing Education, the College of International Education, and the College of Teacher Education. It also has Anhui Normal University Wanjiang College, the Attached Middle School, the Attached Primary School, and the Attached Kindergarten.

The school's disciplines cover 11 categories, including literature, history, philosophy, economics, management, law, education, science, engineering, agriculture, and art, forming a complete talent training system of different levels such as doctoral, master's, and bachelor's education, and different types of full-time higher education, adult higher education, and international student education. 6 of the university's disciplines were selected as peak disciplines in Anhui Province, 2 of the disciplines were selected as the top 1% in the world by ESI, 18 of the university's disciplines were selected as key disciplines in Anhui Province, and 3 of the university's disciplines were selected as major projects in provincial discipline construction. There are 6 postdoctoral mobile stations, 11 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 31 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, 21 master's professional degree authorization points, and 91 undergraduate majors.

The school library is a national key protection unit for ancient books, with a rich collection of books and a full range of types. There are 3.0317 million paper books, 2.51 million electronic books, 68,900 electronic journals, 101 digital resources, more than 190,000 ancient books and documents, and more than 700 rare ancient books, among which "Hongwu Zhengyun" is the only one in China that is not complete. The school has Anhui Normal University Press and "Journal of Anhui Normal University", "Journal of College Counselors", "Learning Chinese", "Anhui Normal University News" and other publicly issued academic journals and newspapers.

The school is one of the first batch of universities in the country that is allowed to recruit publicly funded international students. It is also a national Chinese language education base, an international exchange and cooperation base in Anhui Province, and an international promotion center for Chinese in Anhui Province. The school has received more than 5,000 international students from more than 60 countries (regions) for long-term and short-term further studies and academic education. It has established long-term friendly cooperation and academic exchange relations with dozens of universities, scientific research institutions, academic groups and educational institutions in the United States, Britain, France, Australia, Russia, Ukraine, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia and other countries (regions).
