Huainan Normal University is a provincial full-time undergraduate college and a provincial project construction unit for master's degree training. The school was founded in 1958 as Huainan Normal College.

Huainan Normal University is a full-time undergraduate college in Anhui Province. Its predecessor was Huainan Normal College. It was founded in 1958, closed in 1962, and reopened in March 1978. In 1999, Huainan Normal College, Huainan Education College (established in 1978), and Huainan Normal School (established in 1952) merged to form the new Huainan Normal College. In 2000, the Ministry of Education approved the upgrading of Huainan Normal College to Huainan Normal University at the undergraduate level.

In 2007, the school successfully passed the undergraduate teaching level assessment organized by the Ministry of Education. In 2009, it was the first among the newly established undergraduate colleges in Anhui Province to be identified as a provincial project construction unit for master's degree training. In 2018, it accepted the review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work by the Ministry of Education. In 2021, the two majors of English and Biological Sciences will enter the first batch of undergraduate admissions in ordinary colleges and universities.

The school currently has two campuses, covering an area of ​​762,000 square meters, a total building area of ​​580,000 square meters, a total value of teaching and scientific research equipment of 198 million yuan, a collection of 2.26 million books of various types, and 656,000 electronic journals.
